The Mixed Fermentation Thread

Posted: 09 Apr 2021 04:56 PM PDT

There seems to a few of us making mixed fermentation beers and even more interested in starting out.
So I thought a general thread on the subject may work??
Would be great to hear what people are up to. Pass advice and encouragement on to each other. Photos I love photos especially of palliclesashock1.. Maybe some bottle swaps? I've only had commercial sour beers other than my own homebrewed and would love to try other home brewed examplesacheers.

What did you brew today?

Posted: 09 Apr 2021 04:30 PM PDT

Some people may not want to write out a full brewday report but just say what they brewed.

So what did you brew today?

I made a 'bit's and bobs stout' to use up the odds and ends of grain I had

Thought i'd bring all my brewdays together in one thread.

Had a day off today and because Foxbats Mainline beer seems to have been the most popular amongst my friends, alongside GH's Paterbeir I thought I would brew it again.

Looking for somewhere between 17-20l for the FV and am still finding my way around my cygnet water boiler so using fag packet maths I used

300og Maris Otter
120g Caramalt
40g Chocolate Wheat
100g Crystal that I found at the bottom of the box and decided to get...

Homebrew supplier delivery...

Hi all,

Has anyone had order issues with home brew suppliers? Ordered a sparge water heater from Brew UK which was in stock online at point of order and told five days later after I contacted them that there was insufficient stock! Site says delicery one working day - Argh!
Incidentally, I ordered a customised all grain kit and received excellent customer service acknowledging there error.

Cyclists.

Posted: 09 Apr 2021 03:26 PM PDT

Being a truck driver in the lakes can be frustrating especially in summer when tourists are everywhere, cyclists can be a real problem in the narrow lanes but being a considerate driver i always give them plenty of room and many wave (no not with clenched fists) or shout thanks as i pass leave them plenty of room (which for any cyclist reading is appreciated), when i see pictures like this it makes my blood boil too may impatient drivers on the road only thinking about themselves...

How to make Turbo Cider.

Afternoon all,

Negligent of me not to have put this up before now, but here's my take on a straightforward 25L Apple Turbo Cider...

Give me a shout if I'm missed any bits out or if anything isn't clear, I knocked it up quite quickly !

It doesn't paste that well into the new thread window, but there is a Word version of the below on OneDrive using the link below

Thought I'd jump on the old bandwagon and make the move on from the "what did you brew today" thread. I suppose that even if no-one reads it I'll have a record for myself 😂 Oh well, here goes 😱

Busy day today. After setting out at kegging my Old Freckled Chicken and being faced with the prospect of having an empty FV I decided today would be my second consecutive brew day.

I'm now on a mission to use up existing hop supplies with a 25kg sack of clear choice pale malt but didn't have enough...

2kw induction 32l boil

Posted: 09 Apr 2021 03:14 PM PDT

Evening all, currently weighing up options to increase my brew length from the 10l stove top to 23l into the FV.

For reference I BIAB and no chill.

Was all set on a 30l Burco Cygnet which is still an option, but someone suggested an induction hob and stainless steel pot.

The induction and pot appeals for a few reasons;
  • The vessel and electrics are separated. I tend to clean up in the bath, so not having to worry about being careful with wires or the base electrics is appealing...

Mangrove Jacks Grapefruit IPA

Posted: 09 Apr 2021 03:12 PM PDT

Hi All,

New member looking for some guidance.

Looking to to start this kit over the weekend. Kit says to ferment for 7 days before adding the hops and bottling after a further 2-3 days.

One thing I have gleaned from this site is that longer is better so my previous kit I bottled after 3 weeks rather than the 1 week suggested by the kit.

If I do similarly with this kit, at what stage do I add the hops - after 7 days or 2-3 days before bottling?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Grainfather

Posted: 09 Apr 2021 02:41 PM PDT

Hi
I have beein brewing with a Grainfather pre connect version I managed to get hold of cheap.
It has been very good apart from grain and hops blocking the filter . I now put the hops in hop socks and it still manages to get grain blocking the filter . Most of my kits are from Malt Miller.
I was wondering are the ugrades camlock , false bottom and overflow filter worth it and will it solve the filter block.
One other query regarding the overflow , should you let the wort go into the overfow...

EXTRACT NEIPA RECIPE

Posted: 09 Apr 2021 02:27 PM PDT

Hi All,
Very new to extract recipes and trying to get to grips with a recipe I have taken from Brewers Friend and scaled down.
I have copied and pasted the key elements below and would really appreciate your help.
My key question relates to hop additions in bold. I understand the 2 hops in the boil should be added 10 and 5 mins respectively before end of boil but I am not clear on the whirlpool additions.
Does this mean after flameout but keeping that temp range stated before cooling for...
