Fermenter King Jr - review or feedback

Posted: 03 Apr 2021 05:45 PM PDT

Hi I was thinking of getting one, even just for storage with neoprene cover. I was watching a review and the guy said it leaks through pvr? He didn't say which company. Are there 2 versions now from different companies? According this site Keg King is 540mm and I saw dimensions in another drawing - looked very similar and was 586mm - but that was bottom to post top? So 540mm might not to top of post. Anyhow as I understand there is a new cap with mini lid, so locks inside and pressure keeps...

Conditioning grain

Posted: 03 Apr 2021 06:56 PM PDT

Does anyone else do this? I've been conditioning grain for a good long while now, but wondering if it is something I can cut out of my brewday. Main benefit for me is that husks are kept intact and that really helps avoid stuck or slow sparges. It also pretty much eliminates dust when milling.

I don't want to go back to buying crushed grain as I like the control I get from milling my own, plus I only brew once per month and I do think whole grain keeps better. In the grand scheme of things...

Another dreaded "has my fermentation finished?" thread.

Posted: 03 Apr 2021 02:36 PM PDT

Stout started out with OG reading of 1042, a vigorous first few days fermentation followed by steady bubbling slowing right down in the last few days. It's now had two full weeks in the fermenter and today airlock activity seems to have ceased so I took a reading which came out at 1020, which is only about 3% alcohol. I believe 1020 is within the realms of credibility for a final gravity, but I am a bit surprised as 1042 was lower than I was expecting to start with and 1020 is higher than I...

Joke of the day.

Posted: 03 Apr 2021 02:23 PM PDT

A joke to take the minds off the worriers and whittlers, who think we are all going to be wiped out with plagues pestilence and the off chance of a collision with a asteroid.

In a small village in Russia the village milking cow dried up, the villagers were panicking wondering what to do. A village elder suggested they go and see the wise man of the woods, so they traipsed up to where the wise man of the woods lived. They explained the problem they had with the cow and he told them they...

What have I made?

Posted: 03 Apr 2021 02:14 PM PDT

Was aiming for a kolsch but ended up subbing most of the ingredients for other stuff. Would appreciate people's views on what this now is?

Swapped pilsen for maris otter
Swapped kolsch yeast (can't remember what one) for US-05
Swapped bittering hops from mittlefruh to magnum.
Kept late addition to mittlefruh

Its not a kolsch clone anymore in my opinion but don't really know what to class it as.

Any takers? I'm sure...

What did you do today?

Posted: 03 Apr 2021 01:40 PM PDT

Well today I went at my taps and keggerator with Ernest pulling them apart as they have been out of use for a few months.
Dismantled both taps to clean in a mixture of fairy and oxi and the amount of gunk wet and dried that came off was disgusting and didn't even take a picture but take my word.
Anyway cleaned and sanitised as is the keggerator and a full keg of Pale Ale I brewed in October which I sampled last night and will murder after I've transferred a lager to keg and start cold...
