Mashmaster MiniMill with 12VDC Motor, speed controller and hopper

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 09:25 PM PDT

Hi all,
Selling my mill which is the model irectly preceding the fluted roller available now I believe. Comes with 12VDC Motor and speed controller from motion dynamics. I fitted a dual universal joint coupling to overcome difficulties in alignment which work a treat.
Has a home made hopper which works great ad holds around 6kg of grain from memory.
At a guess it's maybe run only 300kgs of grain all up.
The total of above was over $500

I will optionally sell with high quality 12VDC (black...

Mashmaster MiniMill with 12VDC Motor, speed controller and hopper

Hi all

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 09:21 PM PDT

I am looking at purchasing a 30l beer me boiler for BIAB. As this has no temp control i am using my inkbird 308. I know i could get a digiboil 35 for the same job but as i am looking at between 15 and l8l using my fermenter king junior i feel this is a waste. My question is profile set up. I will determine the boil of rate by boiling water for 60 mins. As there is a space under the tap is this mash tun deadspace. Or should i use this as trub chiller loss as i no chill.

Two Bays (Gluten Free) Grain Kits

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 07:25 PM PDT

Just wondering if anyone has brewed with any of the Two Bays gluten free grain kits?
https://www.twobays.beer/collections/brew-packs

I want to get a gluten free beer on the go for a few friends and family, a mix of gluten sensitive, intolerant and coeliac individuals (don't know why I know so many!). Just not sure what style to go for and if the kits are any good or not. Apparently their house beers are tasty but I've not yet tried them..

Cheers!

Simon's Brewing Method

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 05:40 PM PDT

This is a detailed description of my brewing method and I would appreciate any tip on what I might be able to improve!

Mash grain in nylon bag. Electric kettle with digital temp controller, plate on the bottom to keep bag off the heater. Usually 60 mins at ~65C.

Water from the tap, no treatment. 15L to mash. I did try bottled water from Tesco \ Asda but did not notice a significant difference. Maybe very slight. I'm in Gillingham, Kent, South East. Water report -...

Joe's Bob the Discobrewshed brew days

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 03:58 PM PDT

Hi all,
Thought I would try and write up my brew days here... This was my second go at an all grain brew - the Malt Miller Elusive Spellbinder coffee porter clone.
Set up was quite straightforward, as I was doing BIAB I decided to mash with 26l and just have 4l sparge water on standby in a saucepan rather than using my HLT as well.

Belgian breweries that use dry yeast, experiences with dry yeasts for Belgian styles, liquid snobbery, etc...

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 03:15 PM PDT

Prompted by another thread on Fermentis' safale T58, I've been thinking a bit about the use of dry yeasts in Belgian beers and by Belgian breweries. There is some suggestion online - quite convincing - that Struise use T58 for Pannepot, and De Ranke use T58 blended with S33 (or maybe another Fermentis strain) for XX Bitter. Are the use of these, and other dry yeast strains more prevalent in Belgian breweries - i.e. micros that won't have their own proprietary strain - than might be obvious...

(Dis)colouration

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 02:56 PM PDT

I have recently had two occasions with country wines changing colour while in the DJ (after fermenting out). The Carrot went from light orange to quite dark, and now the Celery is moving from a golden colour to more orangey. I have kept them well sealed with rubber bungs.

They have both been stored at the back of the garage, which is the coolest and darkest place I can find (excepting under the stairs, which is full of er....stuff)

I did read in Berry that 'white' wines could be...

Please help - Augustiner Helles clone with WLP860

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 02:54 PM PDT

Hi everyone,

Could really do with some help here, I am currently fermenting an all-grain Augustiner Helles brew with staggeringly slow results. The brew day went perfectly and I hit target gravity at 1.053, no issues to report at all, however it took 3 days for any bubbling to start in the fermenter, and today after 6 days I'm only at 1.045 (it's been in the fermentation fridge at 10degC as per instructions). I took a sample yesterday (1.048 at that point) and left it on the side at room...

roasted barley

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 02:27 PM PDT

i am following a stout recipe and it has roasted barley in , it says to add the roasted barley at the end of mash doesn't say how long to leave it in at the end so i am not sure on that , i was thinking of putting the roast barely in for the last 20 mins of the mash , just wondering what people think on this ?

Best Beer Names

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 02:26 PM PDT

I think I've seen references to this in other threads with people mentioning the great names that some beers have. A couple of examples I recall seeing on this forum are an NEIPA called "Juice Forsyth" and a Brut IPA called "Brut Reynolds".
What prompted me to post this is that I've just seen that a local brewery to me have a hazy Pale ale called " Is Citra way to Amarillo" which I thought was brilliant. There must be so many other good ones.

All grain brewing

Posted: 16 Jul 2021 02:24 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I am looking for some information with regards to all grain brewing.
I've been brewing from kits for a while now and feel it's time to move onto "all grain" brewing so the advice I need is! What books would you recommend to refer too on this subject? Possibly brew in the bag style, thanks in advance and happy brewing, cheers Dave

Thought I'd jump on the old bandwagon and make the move on from the "what did you brew today" thread. I suppose that even if no-one reads it I'll have a record for myself 😂 Oh well, here goes 😱

Busy day today. After setting out at kegging my Old Freckled Chicken and being faced with the prospect of having an empty FV I decided today would be my second consecutive brew day.

I'm now on a mission to use up existing hop supplies with a 25kg sack of clear choice pale malt but didn't have enough...

Consumers Show Strong Support for Direct-To-Consumer Spirits

Volume 345 | July 16, 2021
Consumers Show Strong Support for Direct-To-Consumer Spirits

80% of consumers believe distillers should be allowed to ship their products directly to consumers in any state, according to a survey from the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS). In addition, 62% confirmed that they have purchased beverage alcohol online through direct-to-consumer (DTC) or e-commerce platforms.

Only nine states currently permit DTC shipping of distilled spirits, though an additional seven states temporarily allowed in-state shipping for distillers throughout the pandemic and some are considering bills to permanently legalize the practice. DISCUS has aligned with American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA) and American Distilling Institute (ADI) to ensure spirits DTC shipping laws are a top legislative priority.

“These survey results clearly illustrate the importance of this effort, and the need to work collaboratively to help move legislation forward to create these very opportunities,” said Margie A.S. Lehrman, CEO of ACSA.
