Ballistic Black Forrest Birthday Cake Stout recipe

Posted: 18 Apr 2021 10:03 PM PDT

Hi all, recently I was inspired to brew up a stout that closely resembled the Ballistic Birthday Cake Stout.

If anyone was interested in brewing it, I thought I'd share the recipe to save you the time trying to develop it from scratch.

Overall the first impression is quite close but I'm yet to do a side by side to compare my recipe to the real deal.

I hope you enjoy, I will post a photo when it's ready to drink.

KegLand Questions and Answers

Posted: 18 Apr 2021 07:22 PM PDT

This thread is because we have been getting some questions from our customers and often we are answering the same questions to multiple different people and perhaps the more efficient way to handle these questions is through a public forum.

Also as we feel that we have a team of staff with a fairly wide range of experience especially in the keg dispensing hardware field we feel that this can also be an area for customers to ask us about specific advice on how to use gear.

It should be...

Keg Carb Pressure Vs Serving Pressure

Posted: 18 Apr 2021 06:21 PM PDT

I tried to find something on this but nothig quite answered my questions. I used the keg carb calculator to get the my keg pressure which turned out to be 0.45bar (6.5psi) but I seem to hear a lot that people use serving pressure of 12-14psi. So I was a little curious, is there a difference of is the carb pressure just the same as the serving pressure for that beer?

Joke of the day.

Posted: 18 Apr 2021 04:00 PM PDT

A joke to take the minds off the worriers and whittlers, who think we are all going to be wiped out with plagues pestilence and the off chance of a collision with a asteroid.

In a small village in Russia the village milking cow dried up, the villagers were panicking wondering what to do. A village elder suggested they go and see the wise man of the woods, so they traipsed up to where the wise man of the woods lived. They explained the problem they had with the cow and he told them they...

Fury Tea's brewdays

Posted: 18 Apr 2021 03:18 PM PDT

Thought I'd start logging my beers on here.

Starting with yesterday's brew, had this in my mind for a while now and finally got round to brewing it. The idea is ALL British ingredients, malt, hops and yeast. I wanted to see if I could kind of approximate something like a lager but all British. Aiming for light, fresh, quaffable in the sun and around 5.5%.

I guess I could just keep monitoring the probe thermometer I put in at the top and switch the heat on and off manually, or I could get some sort of PID or similar so looking for suggestions on a cost effective way of achieving this.

Hazelwood Brewday

Posted: 18 Apr 2021 02:57 PM PDT

I only joined the group a few days ago and today was my first brewday since joining so I thought I ought to give this a go - at least once.

Starting with the crime scene, I revamped our garden a couple of years ago. My wife wanted decking, a gazebo, and comfortable seating, I wanted a bar, win-win!

So this is where I also brew, at my bar, shown here in winter plumage (clear plastic PVC tarps fitted to two sides).

The Mixed Fermentation Thread

Posted: 18 Apr 2021 02:35 PM PDT

There seems to a few of us making mixed fermentation beers and even more interested in starting out.
So I thought a general thread on the subject may work??
Would be great to hear what people are up to. Pass advice and encouragement on to each other. Photos I love photos especially of palliclesashock1.. Maybe some bottle swaps? I've only had commercial sour beers other than my own homebrewed and would love to try other home brewed examplesacheers.

High Final Gravity

Posted: 18 Apr 2021 02:28 PM PDT

Have just done my first All grain brew and after 2 weeks in the fermentation bucket my final gravity is very high.

Can anyone explain what may have caused this?

Started on 3rd April
Dry hops added 14/4

Final gravity taken today 18/4 1022 was looking to get to 1011

Robobrew / Beersmith- Brewhouse efficiency?

Posted: 18 Apr 2021 02:06 PM PDT

I keep overshooting my OG by quite a lot. I use Beersmith (Robobrew equipment profile) and I usually keep the BH efficiency at the standard 72%, it used to get me close enough so never bothered changing it but recently I am a fair few points over.
For example, my last 2 brews were OG estimated 1.057 and I hit 1.070 and todays was estimated 1.047 but I hit 1.060 (volumes were spot on).

I've made some changes to my brewing recently, I pay closer attention to PH and treat my water, I wet...

What did you do today?

Well today I went at my taps and keggerator with Ernest pulling them apart as they have been out of use for a few months.
Dismantled both taps to clean in a mixture of fairy and oxi and the amount of gunk wet and dried that came off was disgusting and didn't even take a picture but take my word.
Anyway cleaned and sanitised as is the keggerator and a full keg of Pale Ale I brewed in October which I sampled last night and will murder after I've transferred a lager to keg and start cold...

What is best in life?

Posted: 18 Apr 2021 01:23 PM PDT

Like most of us I have long lived by the simple belief that what is best in life is to crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women. However, the responsibilities of life have inevitably matured me and I came to a startling new revelation today. Finally it has become clear that a true sense of fulfilment and inner peace is the result of seeing vigorous fermentation taking place in both brews that I made this weekend (Youngs American IPA and...

Posted: 18 Apr 2021 12:38 PM PDT

Does anyone know where I can find glass bottles suitable for corking that are more appropriate for spirits like rum? Preferably 750ml but I'm flexible. Can't really find anything on the usuals like Amazon, eBay etc and world-of-bottles are great but it isn't clear if I can cork them. It seems they use stoppers or screw tops which is not what I want.

Khachapuri flatbread

In Washington D.C., Supra is like a temple of Georgian cuisine. The restaurant serves several types of khachapuri, which is more of a category of topped or stuffed (or sometimes, both) breads than a specific dish. This version from the Adjara region is its most popular. It features a cheese-stuffed crust and a bubbling melted cheese that's combined with egg yolk and butter just before serving. As with the other breads, a store-bought dough would be fine. However, the chefs at Supra use a soft enriched dough, and they recommend that you make your favorite pizza dough recipe with milk substituted for water rather than purchasing one that is premade.
