Ginger beer recipe

Posted: 26 Aug 2021 05:08 PM PDT

Hi all

New to home brewing and decided to home brew a batch of ginger beer now I bought a coopers diy kit couple weeks ago I decided today to brew some ginger beer. I have been googling different recipies on how to do it so I thought give mine a try and see what happens.

I understand coopers no longer sell the ginger beer so I had to settle for brigalow.

Here goes

Brigalow ginger beer
1kg dextrose
1kg brewing sugar
1kg raw sugar
750ml ginger cordial
30g all spice ground
30g cinnamon...

Hazelwood Brewday

Posted: 26 Aug 2021 05:10 PM PDT

I only joined the group a few days ago and today was my first brewday since joining so I thought I ought to give this a go - at least once.

Starting with the crime scene, I revamped our garden a couple of years ago. My wife wanted decking, a gazebo, and comfortable seating, I wanted a bar, win-win!

So this is where I also brew, at my bar, shown here in winter plumage (clear plastic PVC tarps fitted to two sides).

Coopers Yeast.

Posted: 26 Aug 2021 03:37 PM PDT

My latest AG brew was only a 10 litre experiment so decided to use up a spare sachet of yeast from a Coppers kit.
It was 7g of R0007, so seemed an ideal amount.
OG was 1.062 and it's already at 1.010 after only 3 days!
I've dry hopped it just now as I guess it's nearly done.
Anyone know what Cooper R0007 yeast is?

How many litres of home brew have you made 2021.

Run out of gas

Hi just run out of 70 /30 gas will my guniess keg be OK less than 24 hours until I get it refilled

What to brew?

Posted: 26 Aug 2021 02:27 PM PDT

Hi everyone,
So I've had my first bash at the simple smash which is conditioning and have 2 kits on the go.
Currently waiting for my bonfire toffee stout to be delivered. So I randomly brought some malts and have the following (only the 1 hops because I brought everything from b2b which have none available at the moment).
What would you recommend I could make out of this lot?
3kg Maris Otter
500g Caramalt
500g Chocolate Malt
500g Torrified Wheat
500g Munich Malt
Some fuggles hops

Brew off 2021 returns

Posted: 26 Aug 2021 02:27 PM PDT

The next instalment of the 4 way brew off series has been agreed.

@Leon103 @dan125 @dave_77 and myself @Hoddy will be entering into the next round of the brew off series independently judged by @beerison

The next round is simply "uk hops" that's it. No style restrictions or ABV to follow. Just Uk hops only.

Who will triumph this time. Only time will tell.

Guinness West Indies Porter Clone

Posted: 26 Aug 2021 02:05 PM PDT

I was just converting the recipe for West Indies Porter from a website that @MmmBeer had posted yesterday and was looking for opinions on the duration of both the boil and mash stated in the recipe. It gives the boil time 85 minutes and mash of 90 minutes. Any opinions on the benefit of the stated timings compared to the standard 60 minute mash and 60 minute boil ?

Different taste same beer

Anyone else experienced this?

Help with angram beer engine problem

Posted: 26 Aug 2021 12:35 PM PDT

When I pull a pint I'm getting a jump of the handle, and the beer I'm pouring looks like it is being blown with air.

I think it's sucking air in somewhere, but I can't for the life of me find where, could it be a faulty diaphragm (not sure that's what they're called) inside the cylinder, I have tightened everything and checked everywhere else and cannot find a problem. I do have a demand valve in the system. I'm just pulling beer from a vented corny keg.

Thanks for any replies

Verdant Yeast -1 pack or 2?

Posted: 26 Aug 2021 11:52 AM PDT

Hi all

I'm brewing a Verdant style IPA tomorrow to 6.5%, I have bought 2 packs of the Lallemand dry yeast but wondering whether I actually need them both. it's a 20l batch. Will I get better flavour from more yeast and it being less stressed?

I'd rather pitch both packs if it will give a noticeably better result but equally if its not really any different I'll just save a pack for another brew.

Any 1st hand experience or advice appreciated. I've previously brewed with it in a similar...

Does cold crashing count as contact time for dry hopping?

Posted: 26 Aug 2021 11:18 AM PDT

Dear all,

I usually do 3-4 days drying hopping towards the end of brew; then 2 days in fridge for cold crash but it takes a day to get down to 1-4 degrees.

Does the time cold crashing count as contact time on hops as that would make 6-7 days total if it did

Brewzilla false bottom hack - securing the false bottom

Posted: 26 Aug 2021 10:45 AM PDT

Its a bit of a bug bear of mine that the false bottom of the Brewzilla 35l lifts and bobs around during the boil. This lets alot of hop matter past the false bottom and makes clean up more messy, and lets alot of hop matter through and into the fermenter. Not the end of the world, but I've been looking for a simple and cheap solution for this. I had a bit of a brainwave today and wondered if anyone else has tried this hack? It struck me that a second wire malt pipe support would make the...

How Premium Vodkas Are Innovating to Serve Consumers

How Premium Vodkas Are Innovating To Serve Consumers

Despite the rise of premium spirits, premium-plus vodka has faced recent challenges with the segment shrinking at a volume CAGR of -3.5% in 2020, according to IWSR. However, brands in the segment have been able to bridge the gap through innovations including the use of botanicals, RTDs, and improved consumer messaging.

Vodka’s neutral flavor has also allowed it to find a natural home within the growing RTD category, with 51% of RTD consumers in the U.S. claiming that vodka is their favorite RTD base. Vodka brands are also finding unique ways to attract the modern consumer as they return on-premise after an extended period of at-home drinking.

“As drinking establishments open up again, they’ll be greeted by better-informed drinkers who are looking for more premium spirits,” says. Alex Tomlin, SVP of marketing at Bacardi North America. “For professional cocktail craftspeople, this is welcome news, because aficionados make better appreciators.”
