W34/70 not packing down

Posted: 09 Aug 2021 05:06 PM PDT

I've got a peroni clone which is cold crashing before kegging, but the yeast doesn't seem to be packing down very well. Its W34/70. I've not had this before, is it normal for this yeast? Anything I can do to help it pack down before kegging? Thinking I'll either pull some across into the keg or lose some volume.

Any advice?

Clyne's (BrewBru's!) brewday

Posted: 09 Aug 2021 02:54 PM PDT

Well after watching these brewday threads from the sidelines for over a year I finally decided to jump in and join the crowd. As much so I can make notes and remember what I did and when as I'm terrible at writing stuff up on brewdays. I tend to use a mixture of BeerSmith and a whiteboard in my garage but thought I'd start adding stuff on here as a bit of a diary.

So, last weekend was a double brew day!

First off was a variation of Dennis King's Galaxy Delight. Been meaning to brew this...

I mix bits from recipes to get where I want it and add as much heat as you like. Makes "British Indian restaurant" style curries. A bit of messing about to get set up but nothing you can't find at a decent supermarket or Asian store.

Free hops to collect - Scotland Central Belt - Now offering postage (details in post #6)

Posted: 09 Aug 2021 01:50 PM PDT

The very generous Dave Lannigan at Ride Brewing Co has offered up some spare hops for collection, these are whole leaf hops. I've already filled all that I could from the kind offer from Glasgow home brewers facebook group. Dave apparently has more and has offered for me to collect them. Now I already have plenty but if there were takers from Central Scotland that would like some free whole leaf hops then I'd be willing to collect a few bales and if you brought your own containers you could...

Fermenting in corny keg

Posted: 09 Aug 2021 01:37 PM PDT

Ive been brewing 9 months now and i have done many batches using a plastic bucket fermenter and transferring into the lid of the keg with a beer line then closing the lid and purging it a few times with co2 before carbonating.
Im looking to change and i was thinking of purchasing a fermzilla but it seems to need a lot of extras im also curious about fermenting in a corny keg if anyone has any opinions. I understand i need a spunding valve but also im wondering how much height of trub will...

What did you brew today?

So what did you brew today?

Adding lactose

Posted: 09 Aug 2021 01:04 PM PDT

Hello all

First time using lactose and need some advice.

My plan is to knock up a simple pale ale around 20l and want to split the batch. 10l to be used for a mango milkshake pale ale with lactose and the other 10l without lactose.

So question is, can I add by mixing in the lactose when I stir/aerate the wort just prior to yeast pitch?

Many thanks in advance…

Interview: Jackie Summers, Founder of Sorel Liqueur

Volume 361 | August 9, 2021
Jackie Summers, Founder of Sorel Liqueur

In 2012, Jackie Summers started the first-known Black-owned distillery in the U.S. and created the instantly popular Sorel Liqueur. Now Summers is taking some time to sit down with Park Street University to discuss some of the lessons he's learned along the way and how he's managed his relationships within the business.
In the latest edition of our Startup Spotlight, Summers discusses the story behind his brand and the unique liquid that he was able to distill. Ultimately, he reveals that the secret to his success has been his determination to put the needs of his business partners first. Summers maintains that the key to making sure your brand builds a profit is first to make sure that your distributors, retailers, bars and restaurants are profiting from your product. The rest will follow.
"You are officially in the relationship business," advises Summers on dealing with your distributors. "If you can’t create and sustain meaningful relationships, no one will care about your brand. Like any relationship, brands and distributors have to have mutually vested interests. You should have clearly expressed expectations and plans to achieve your mutual goals."
