I'm always interested to know where you are located, I maybe missing something but I can't find it. I do like your range of White Labs yeasts as I'm a bit of a yeast junkie. Also you have Yeast Nutrient for $2.95, again perhaps I'm missing it but is this a gram or a kilo?

And all the best with the new venture.

CO2 help

Posted: 08 Apr 2021 05:37 PM PDT

I've never used gas for carbonation before and all of the different types of bottles and cartridges has me confused.

First off, does any that I get have to have a certain kind of fitting? I've seen screwed and blank cartridges.

What is the minimum size I would need to force carbonate a 19l corny? I assume the small 16g, etc cartridges are useless? I know economically it is better to get a big tank as the refill costs scale better, but the initial outlay on them is more than I can afford...

Victorian Mild!

Posted: 08 Apr 2021 05:29 PM PDT

Well, following my Victorian Bitter thread this was inevitable, wasn't it? But I was hi-jacking @An Ankoù's thread, Quest for the Perfect Bitter , and trying to pass off "Victorian Milds" as bitters (well they were a tiny bit stronger back then). And I was inadvertently passing off my definition of...

Looking to buy 2 corny kegs

Posted: 08 Apr 2021 03:37 PM PDT

Will probably order reconditioned ones online tomorrow, just wondering if anyone in West/Central Scotland has any they want to sell.

Poured 29 bottles down the sink today.

Posted: 08 Apr 2021 03:30 PM PDT

I thought long and hard, but remember when the FilmFour TV channel first came out? They had a slogan: life's too short to watch bad films! Well, I think life's too short to drink bad beer!

Beer is pretty cheap, I'm not so skint that I can't buy a few bottles from the corner shop. Because beer is 'free' or 'home-brew', is no reason to drink it if it doesn't please me. And this batch didn't. I am satisfied that it will not improve with more time. It was way over-hopped and too bitter. I have...

5L mini kegs - can I fill and keep them like bottles?

Posted: 08 Apr 2021 02:50 PM PDT

Hi all,

New member - first question! Been brewing a mix of kits, mini mash and AG for a few years now and have always bottled which is becoming a pain in the proverbial.

I'm looking at the S/S mini kegs like the Dark Farm ones with the CO2 charger / tap outlet - not the retail outlet type with the rubber bungs. I have a couple of questions which I've answered many times myself but still not convinced I'm on the right path....

1. If I syphon beer straight from the fermenter into the keg...

Hear me out...

Nitrogen wheat beer.

I could be wrong (small minded and poorly travelled), but I've not seen any other style of beer use nitrogen commercially. Surely a nice full feeling wheat beer or pale would work? Would it not add to the juicy, chewy texture of a NEIPA?

Bottles or kegs or barrel

Posted: 08 Apr 2021 02:25 PM PDT

Hello again. Following on from the good advice I received a week ago I'm gathering a lot of equipment plus reading the book I was told to get-it really is very good. I'm also watching YouTube videos. I'm fairly confident now that I can undertake the brewing and mashing stages. The issue I've got now is what to put the beer in when finished. At first I thought bottles then a 9.5l cornie plus bottles. Now I'm thinking of a 19l cornie plus bottles. Using the kegs seems a little daunting but...

Reconditioned keg scratches internally

Posted: 08 Apr 2021 02:21 PM PDT

Hi Guys,
I have dissembled my new reconditioned-keg soaked for 18hrs in chemclean then started wiping down the inside where I have found lots of grey metal stains coming off on to a clean cloth, finally cleaned that all off and felt lots of scratches inside the keg, not smooth at all, but on closer in spection look clean, also quite a bit of rust was on the keg post thread itself which made it very difficult to get off.

My question is any of these things to worry about or normal on a keg...

To bottle or not too bottle?

Posted: 08 Apr 2021 02:12 PM PDT

Hi all,
This site has given me great advice as a new home brewer.
3rd time of trying to brew a stout and I've hit trouble again......

7.5 litres in fermenter of a smoky stout
SG was 1.092 and fermentation seems to have stalled after 1.5 weeks and current gravity is 1.052. Too high as was aiming for 1.020. Plenty of fermentables still in there as still sweet at taste test when measured gravity. At least this game I know where I went wrong as I think I have underpitched. I used a White Labs...
