Yeast Nutrient Posted: 03 Aug 2021 04:24 PM PDT I'm considering using a Yeast Nutrient with my next brew. I usually get my ingredients etc from Malt Miller. I see they stock WLN1000, NBS Yeast Nutrient and WLN3200 White Labs Servomyces Can anyone recommend one of these? And what about Young's yeast nutrient? |
Boom & Bust Posted: 03 Aug 2021 04:06 PM PDT I just seem to be stuck in this terrible cycle of Boom & Bust. Whenever I have beer that's properly in condition it vanishes faster than snow in Summer. Friends and family erupt from the woodwork like slugs heading for the cabbage patch on a full moon. Next thing you know, I'm sloshing the Corny thinking Hmmm, that suddenly feels a bit light... This invariably is the point at which I realise that I haven't actually got a replacement brew on. Next thing I know, the conditioned beer... Boom & Bust |
Reiterated mash...anyone done it? Posted: 03 Aug 2021 03:38 PM PDT Fancy brewing an imperial stout and tuck it away for a good 12 months or so. Watched a David Heath video on YouTube who brewed an Imperial Stout using the Reiterated mash method. My understanding is you mash and spare as normal once, then dump the grain, refill with fresh grain and mash again in the wort you already have. Obviously a good method to get high gravities from a large malt bill with a limited mash volume. I fancy giving it a go but I usually use Brewfather for my water volume... New range of kits from Muntons arriving in the spring Posted: 03 Aug 2021 03:23 PM PDT I was contacted recently by Muntons to see if I would be prepared to brew one of their new kits that are due to be launched in spring 2021. I agreed and will be starting the brew this weekend and then supplying feedback to Muntons. All of the new kits are 2 x can malt extract kits, with yeast and hops, and Muntons describe them as 'kits with modern flavours and styles'. The range is as follows; American Pale Ale – 4.5% ABV West Coast IPA – 6.5% ABV American Amber Ale 4.5% ABV New England... New range of kits from Muntons arriving in the spring |
Hazelwood Brewday Posted: 03 Aug 2021 02:52 PM PDT I only joined the group a few days ago and today was my first brewday since joining so I thought I ought to give this a go - at least once. Starting with the crime scene, I revamped our garden a couple of years ago. My wife wanted decking, a gazebo, and comfortable seating, I wanted a bar, win-win! So this is where I also brew, at my bar, shown here in winter plumage (clear plastic PVC tarps fitted to two sides). |

Starting again Posted: 03 Aug 2021 01:57 PM PDT Hi everyone, I've been dipping in and out of home brewing for years now. Lucky that in my current job I've got plenty of spare time now and am in need of hobbies before the OH has me doing any more decorating.... Want to nail beer making this time round as never seem to master this, even with the 2 can kits and also want to get a good stash of wine up again. Happy days |
Harrogate water profiles Posted: 03 Aug 2021 01:47 PM PDT Just had a few days staying in beautiful Harrogate. Of course in Victorian times the town was famous for its 'water cure' having some of the most sulferous water in the UK. So when I saw this plaque in the municipal gardens showing the analysis of the minerals of the different springs I thought I'd share it ;-) Anyone know how to convert 'grains per gallon' to PPM ?? |
Electric guitar for a beginner? Posted: 03 Aug 2021 01:46 PM PDT My 13 year old boy is interested in taking up the guitar. I've no knowledge at all about such things - anyone point me in the right direction? Cheers. |
RO Filters Posted: 03 Aug 2021 01:45 PM PDT Hello all, I am in an area of very hard water (>250ppm) and was looking at a 3-stage RO filter to dilute my water for pilsners. Recently, I've been boiling to soften which is going to be crazy expensive. I'm wondering which one to go for. I was looking at the following: Option 1 (£55)... RO Filters |
Pump for Klarstein/Hopcat/Ace/etc Posted: 03 Aug 2021 01:35 PM PDT Evening all, Today I was giving my Klarstein all in one a good cleaning, and removed the box that accommodates the pump. It was a bit of a faff, and I thought in for a penny, so thought I'd give the pump impeller a good clean. Unfortunately, I dropped it and one of the blades split. It hasn't come right off. I'm wondering if anyone knows where I might find a replacement impeller. I've emailed Klarstein, but I'm pretty sure they don't bother selling spare parts. Failing that, is there such...
