Posted: 06 Aug 2021 11:41 PM PDT For sale 13 brand new drums for no chill brewing or fresh wort kits. Or any other use you can think of. They're 15L units but with hot wort going in they fit an average of 18.5L which is great for a single batch keg or a yield of 24 long necks. I'm looking to sell in one go if anyone wants all 13. Might separate if no bids. $100 pick up in Nowra (I can drop off nearby too) |

Posted: 07 Aug 2021 06:13 PM PDT First time posting. I'm considering homebrewing and thinking on set up costs. I'd consider a grainfather or brewzilla sort of set up, wondering what else I'd need. And are supplies plentiful in North west or am I looking to buy online. |
I've just found out I've been calculating ABV wrong all these years! Posted: 07 Aug 2021 05:23 PM PDT I've always subtracted the bit of the final gravity from original gravity after the decimal point (the mantissa, I remember they used to call it in Maths lessons), and divided by 7.36. Now I understand I should be using the whole number for the subtraction, and multiplying by 131.25. Example: OG 1050, FG 1010 Method 1: (50-10)/7.36 = 5.43% Method 2: (1.050-1.010) x 131.25 = 5.25% Now I realise neither method will be spot-on. What does the panel think. is the variation in answers "within... I've just found out I've been calculating ABV wrong all these years! |
Posted: 07 Aug 2021 04:08 PM PDT Hi, I found a new zealand pilsner recipe on you tube but didn't have exactly the same ingredients. This is what I have, any advice would be greatly appreciated |
Posted: 07 Aug 2021 03:44 PM PDT Hello all, I am in an area of very hard water (>250ppm) and was looking at a 3-stage RO filter to dilute my water for pilsners. Recently, I've been boiling to soften which is going to be crazy expensive. I'm wondering which one to go for. I was looking at the following: Option 1 (£55)... RO Filters |
Posted: 07 Aug 2021 03:25 PM PDT I thought I might as well join the fun and post my own brewday log here in the forum. Today is an experimental bitter with the following recipe. I've never used Northdown before but Fullers use it and I very much enjoy a pint of Pride. I've also never added Chocolate malt to a bitter before but it's there in one of my favourite bitters of late: Darkstar Partridge so I'm putting the two together and doing this today: 85% Pale Malt 10% Munich Malt 3% Crystal 240 EBC 2% Low colour chocolate... foxbat's brewdays |
Posted: 07 Aug 2021 02:47 PM PDT Hi all, I recently built a new set-up, so thought I'd start to document some brewdays here. I hope some things may be of interest to others. I'll make the first post about the equipment that I'm brewing on, and then actual brewdays and photos in following posts. My first all grain set up was an all-in-one Guten/Ace/Hopcat/Brewdevil etc clone that really got me brewing regularly as they're just so user friendly. But what I really wanted was a Clawhammer Supply system, as I'd watched... Chopps Brewdays |
Spirit mix still black after 2 weeks. Posted: 07 Aug 2021 01:48 PM PDT Hi I did my 1st spirit kit a few weeks back and did everything exactly to the kit. All the readings was spot on and everything was fine but now for some reason it hasn't cleared from the black carbon. It was while we had that red hot spell so I did wonder if it would take a little longer to clear as wasn't that cool. Any ideas please? Mark. |
Posted: 07 Aug 2021 01:05 PM PDT Hi everyone, I've been dipping in and out of home brewing for years now. Lucky that in my current job I've got plenty of spare time now and am in need of hobbies before the OH has me doing any more decorating.... Want to nail beer making this time round as never seem to master this, even with the 2 can kits and also want to get a good stash of wine up again. Happy days |
No upper temp control - recipe suggestions? Posted: 07 Aug 2021 01:05 PM PDT I don't have a brew fridge and use a water bath for temp control. So, last year I didn't brew during the summer. It's mostly just me that drinks what I brew and I'm open to trying new styles. Whilst stocks are still healthy, I have a growing number of empty bottles. So I'm looking to slip in a couple of my mini brews before temperatures drop. Question is which yeast/recipe to go with? I'm leaning towards the Saison, but don't have any pilsner malt. Saison... No upper temp control - recipe suggestions? |
Posted: 07 Aug 2021 12:21 PM PDT Hi All can anyone tell me how coopers can consider a true lager yeast to ferment at between 21c to 27c , my thoughts were lager ferments at 15c to 18c so i am finding their instructions confusing , any thoughts all ? |

Posted: 07 Aug 2021 11:28 AM PDT My wife and I are going round and round circles....we need your help! Our current car, a VW Touran, needs a fair amount of money spending on it so we are looking to replace it. We've been happy with it, in particular the size, versatility and solid build. We've got 3 kids between 6 and 14, want petrol because we don't do huge numbers of miles and want 3 proper seats in the back. Could be labelled SUV, MPV or estate but we want plenty of boot space. Got up to £15k to spend. What do you... Family car recommendations? |
Posted: 07 Aug 2021 11:26 AM PDT Couldn't join a golf club because he was Jewish so he and a neighbour got the club, what a brilliant story. (watch till the end) |
Posted: 07 Aug 2021 11:24 AM PDT Thought I'd say hi again!? It appears that I stumbled at the first hurdle last time and got myself deleted....... Anyhoo, there's some awesome experience here and look forward to having a good trawl through all the info and perhaps chuck in a pointer or two. I'm a country wine and mead/melomel sort of brewer and hope to pick up a tip or two. T |
Posted: 07 Aug 2021 11:21 AM PDT Anyone have advice for the John Bull IPA beer kit? Specifically for: - use the yeast provided or switch it? - I've used beer enhancer instead of sugar, good move? - what would be a good dry hop option? Or do you think it's not needed. Any tips would be welcome. Brewed a 10l batch. |
