High FG - Stuck fermentation? Posted: 23 Aug 2021 06:30 PM PDT 4 days ago I brewed an AG bitter recipe which had an OG of 1058 and a volume of 21 litres. Pitched in rehydrated Llaland London and kept it in my temperature controlled cupboard at 21 degrees. It had a really vigorous ferment which overflowed through the airlock and lasted a little over a day, but for the last 2 days nothing, gravity has been 1020 and no apparent movement through the airlock. I'd appreciate the thoughts of those with more experience. |

Saison Bomb Recovery Strategy - aka I've been a silly billy Posted: 23 Aug 2021 02:18 PM PDT First of all hello there! I've been using this forum for the 18 months I've been brewing and found a lot of answers to my questions/problems on here, so thank you to all the brewers contributing to this invaluable resource. This is my first time posting as I've put myself in a bit of a pickle with a Saison. Rather than pinpointing the cause of said pickle, which I know was just me being silly and not thinking things through as you will read below, now I need help figuring out the lesser of... Which movie(s) have you watched recently? Posted: 23 Aug 2021 02:03 PM PDT I'm a bit of a cinephile, movies are probably my second love after brewing, I have a "watchlist" which is almost as long as my "brewlist" and I try to watch a couple of films off it each week. I'm always open for suggestions and love hearing what people have watched recently, what their opinion was and why. With such a melange of people on the forum I'm sure I'm not the only one, so what are you watching, or have you watched recently? I'll go first, last night I watched... Fridge freezer Posted: 23 Aug 2021 01:55 PM PDT Hi I have a fridge freezer and want to turn the fridge part into a kegerator. I have seen on various vidoes people use the drainage hole for the gas line. Just wondering if its possible to do that in a fridge freezer and if anyone has before I order a length of tubing to try |

Favourite can kits? Posted: 23 Aug 2021 12:44 PM PDT Which can kits would you recommend for various types of beer, and what modifications have you made to improve them? I'm a golden ale, lager, stout, cider and wine drinker and have been particularly happy with the Cooper's beers and Ritchie's cider brand kits I have made, and look forward to making a Cantina red and Cellar7 white after good reviews . I'm no artisan, but a good solid generic beer is what I like, and would definitely pay a few quid more if I knew I'd get something with an... Favourite can kits? |
Kegerator newbie set up help Posted: 23 Aug 2021 12:42 PM PDT I am about to bite the bullet and go down the corny kegerator route. I bought a keg locally that came with a party tap and another tap (see pic). I have sourced a c02 pub gas bottle from my local pub. I have convinced hubby that we need to make a kegerator, which he say's he will help me make. We have a small chest freezer and a tall fridge we could convert, but I think the fridge is going to be the one to be converted. I have spent ages over the last couple of weeks doing my homework and... Kegerator newbie set up help |
Hi from Caithness Posted: 23 Aug 2021 12:39 PM PDT Hey folks, figured I'd say hi. Probably been over 30 years since i last made wine. Only kit stuff though. My wife bought me a Youngs 30 bottle Merlot kit for Xmas and I got around to making it a couples weeks ago. Turned out to be more of a Rose than a Merlot, but it's quite a nice drink and I managed to get a little over 29 bottles, so quite pleased. I never had many demijohns in the past but I gave them away a few years ago, not thinking that I'd make a return to wine making. Anyway, made... Hi from Caithness |
Keg pressure leaking from PRV - replacement O-rings? Posted: 23 Aug 2021 12:09 PM PDT Evening All, One of my Cornelius kegs isn't holding pressure, and on closer inspection of the PRV (constant hissing was a clue) it seems there's a tear in the tiny O-ring at the bottom of the PRV plunger. I've looked high and low, and while it's easy to find O-rings for disconnect posts, keg lids, etc, I just can't source a replacement O-ring for the pressure relief valve. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks very much in advance ... |
Kveik Stuck Fermentation - what to do? Posted: 23 Aug 2021 12:07 PM PDT I'm fermenting this Kveik NEIPA All grain home brew recipe kit - Brewboard Brewer, WHC Yeast and The Malt Miller Colab - this seriously good NEIPA pulls its fruity magic from Sultana, Comet and Hallertau Blanc, put to work by Framgarden Kveik. A meeting of minds, methods and ingredients that's made a grapefruit, pineapple and... www.themaltmiller.co.uk Started at 35C. It's now 6 days in and still at 1020-1022. I put in the dry hops 3 days ago dropped to 32C. 2 days ago I added 2 tsp of yeast nutrient but it doesn't seem to have done anything. Possibly it's gone down 1-2 points in 2 days but that could be sample variation / temperature. I removed the dry hops today. Should I leave the fermenter at... Best way to cold crash??? Posted: 23 Aug 2021 12:07 PM PDT Cold crash and reducing O2 ingress question. I have a lager just on diacetyl rest. Completion tomorrow and then intend to cold crash. Its in a chronical FV and I have a glycol chiller to crash - but I am wondering the best way to crash cool and not cause oxidisation issues? If I crash what is the likely hood that enough O2 would be pulled in to cause an issue? I also have a brite tank that I could transfer into to crash ad condition. However I ideally wanted to crash in the FV for at... Best way to cold crash??? |
Not as many Apples on my tree Posted: 23 Aug 2021 12:00 PM PDT Hi all, had a look at my apple tree yesterday in readiness for Cider making but definitely not as many Apples to go at this year, also went to look at some of the other trees I can forage off and apples seem sparse on those as well, is it just my area or has anyone else noticed this? |
