RIP Broken Shackles Lager?

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 10:06 PM PDT

Temporarily unable to brew, I browsed at First Choice. By the door they had a display, a close-out offer of Broken Shackles at "half price," $20 for what looked like a slab, 24 x 330. I avoid beers advertised as refreshing, which generally means they're wet and drinkable at Arctic temperatures, . I didn't bite on this one either and still haven't tried it. But take the tip if you wish and let me know what you think of BS.

It's a trait of the big that when they buy or develop a "craft" line...

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 08:23 PM PDT

Just picked up one of the SS brew buckets and want to transfer the beer into a C02 purged keg via the keg's liquid out post.

Pretty sure people do this, but as the brew bucket barb is 8mm how do people connect this up to a liquid QD for a keg transfer?

thanks.

Angram CO Beer Engine Advice Needed

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 08:54 PM PDT

I've just been getting to grips with my new toy over the past few weeks and have a few things I'm not sure about and wondered if anyone can help.

- It came disassembled and there is a threaded bar (tie rod) which I believe goes through the centre of the handle. It came with a nut and 4 washers, which go onto the bar freely. As far as I can tell the rod just screws into the beer engine at one end and a kind of top cap at the other though. I can't see what the nut and 4 washers are for. Can...

What did you brew today?

So what did you brew today?

Secondary fermentation in bottles.

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 06:38 PM PDT

Hi guys,

just a quick Question, how long do you normally leave your bottles before cracking them open? I normally leave them in the shed for 3 weeks before drinking as a rule of thumb.
Cheers

CO2 Gas and cylinder shortage

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 04:14 PM PDT

Following on from Simon 12s thread on Keg shortages, it seems that CO2 supplies have also dried up. Both my local supplier and BOC in Plymouth confirm the new, sudden demand from the restaurant and pub market, means they can only supply existing customers with gas and cylinders.

Doubly frustrating as I'd ordered a Fermzilla All-rounder and it's due in the country any day now. For those whose bottle is getting a bit low, now's the time to contact your supplier.

How to rescue a mead

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 03:40 PM PDT

So as an experiment, I knew what was going to happen but I had 1/2 a packet of yeast just lying about, I concocted a mead using cheap supermarket honey (Morrison's brand).

From racking into secondary, suspicions confirmed - watery, not much honey at all. I used the same recipe with some of the extra-special variety a few months back and by comparison that is much better.

Initial gravity 1.090 - from a reading just now (under by a finger nail) - 1.000. So it's fermented out, it has that...

From brew-day to bottling, what's your average elapsed number of days?

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 03:21 PM PDT

I say bottling, because for those who keg their beer, have to some kind of pressure system etc, I'm not sure it's a fair comparison. So really I'm talking about/to fellow members of the English Bottling Collective. 😀

The reason I ask is that I get the sense that others have a longer brewing period than I do, and wanted to see if that was true. Of course, if you ask people when they bottle their beer, they may say things like "When the FG hits its target" or "When the gravity remains...

Good day to you.

can i have some forum help please.

I keep killing my beer . I seem to be getting a Plaster ( that you stick on a cut) medicinal smell and taste. ive manage to ruin a dark brown ale. Kolsch ( this one alot more than the rest) and a creamsoda ale experiment. its really beginning to drive me insane. ive literally had to ditch 100s of liters ( yes hundreds!) of beer because it has taken on this medicinal taste. Best base hop for Irish dry stout?

Ladies and gents,

as ever a quick question, what's the best base hop for a dry irish stout? I've previosuly used East Kent Goldings but that was with a John Palmer "Mill Run Stout" which was a more fully flavoured brew including crystal and choc malt which I won't be using on this one

Another CO2 supplier question

Posted: 19 Jul 2021 01:38 PM PDT

A lot of the names mentioned in previous threads are not advertising CO2 currently.

I'm looking for a supplier of 2kg or 3.15kg bottles, rent free. Can anyone recommend a supplier of small bottles without huge deposits & rent? Leicester (work) or Notts / Newark area (home) with a collection option.

I've found Fosse Gas who do a new 2kg cylinder for £72, hoping I might do better.

Mike Zig, Co-Founder of Coconut Cartel

Coconut Cartel was founded in 2012 when siblings Mike and Dani Zig began importing fresh coconuts to serve on-premise. In the latest edition of our Startup Spotlight, Mike shares how Coconut Cartel leveraged its initial success to create one of the fastest growing rum brands in the U.S.
Zig shares how Coconut Cartel curated a brand that differentiates itself from other rums on the market by combining a Miami aesthetic, Japanese whisky style bottle, and a super premium aged rum cut to proof with fresh coconut water.
His best advice for establishing a mutually beneficial relationship with a distributor: "Look to partner with distributors that gain value from having you in their portfolio. Consider whether you fill a gap in their portfolio with your product and brand and what your goals are for that particular market.
