New to liquid yeast

Posted: 06 Apr 2021 10:30 PM PDT

Hey guys, I've been lagering for so long with just 34/70 dried yeast that I continue to reuse over and over again by taking a litre of slurry from bottom of my fermenter at kegging, keeping in the refrigerator until next brew day and things have been fine

I purchased a few different lager strains the other day, all which only have a couple months left until use-by mind you. White labs instructions said pitch one vial straight from the packet without a starter for my particular wort so I did...

When a NEIPA recipe calls for first and second dry hopping (ie this one:

Seems like I can't post a thread under The Brew Shed?

I apparently have insufficient privileges, and I can't start a gear-related thread :(

Did I do something to earn a ban hammer? All I can think of is that I started a thread a few months back and then abandonned it until today, but that's only because I had no news and nothing to add

Fermenting under pressure

Posted: 06 Apr 2021 09:14 PM PDT

I've got my Sierra Nevada clone in my new fermzilla all rounder today. Long day.

It doesn't fit in my beer fridge annoyingly so will ferment in my kitchen again.
At the moment I have an airlock in. I do want to try fermenting under pressure.

When should I switch out the airlock for the plastic pressure cap and spunging valve do you think? Immediately? After 48 hrs? Have read different things.

Which Vaccine? [poll]

I had the AstraZeneca jab over 24 hours ago and i haven't yet felt any side effects (fingers crossed i wont) ass some members have reported they have had mild and quite serious side effects i thought it worth finding out which vaccine you had and how bad the side effects were if you had any.
I have listed these as they seem to be the ones most of us have had.

Planning on brewing the Mangrove Jacks juicy IPA, tomorrow.
purchased 26lts of bottled water today to try brewing with.

Cwtch nearly there.

Posted: 06 Apr 2021 02:43 PM PDT

This is my second brew and seems to be progressing nicely. Just dry hopped @ day 11. Been sitting in the fermentation fridge at a very stable 18.5C. Just popped the side of the FV and slid the pellets in. Grabbed a sample via the bubbler bung hole and gravity is currently 1012, down from 1048. Tastes nice too. Going to gently raise the temp to around 20-21C over the next few days and then bottle next Monday/Tuesday.
The first brew (pilgrims hope) has been sitting in its bottles in the top...

Hello, back to brewing !

Posted: 06 Apr 2021 02:32 PM PDT

Hello all, been brewing from kits (beer and wine) on and off for quite a few years. The kits nowadays are very good and this seems a great place for tips and info. Recently made a Woodfordes Wherry, bottled, which turned out very well and St Peters IPA likewise. I'm looking to make a Belgian Blond style next, recommendations welcome!

Flip top bottles/Swing top bottles

Posted: 06 Apr 2021 02:10 PM PDT

Wanting to sell or have someone collect 60ish 500ml flip top bottles, all in solid condition no chips or damage and all have great seals.
As much as I would love to give em away for free, most of them I bought from Brew2bottle.

Since I started kegging I have only bottled twice, will be keeping 60 bottles, so this is half of my stash.
Reason is I am moving from London and won't to reduce the amount of bottles before the move.

Would like 50p per bottle, but naturally I will accept a good...

Burco Cygnet quality?

Posted: 06 Apr 2021 01:58 PM PDT

I'm looking to progress from an 18l pot on the stove to something that can net me 20l into the FV and avoid dealing with excessive condensation in the house.

Would like to keep things as cheap as possible and was wondering what the Burco Cygnet is like quality wise? It'll be getting shifted round the house/garden/garage loads as I don't have much storage so was wondering what the metal thickness is like on the main body? Is it thick enough to resist denting or warping? I saw a boiler the...

Help cleaning beer engines

Posted: 06 Apr 2021 01:42 PM PDT

Hi there, I have just moved into a house with a bar. The previous owner must have spent so much time and money creating his little pub under the stairs and we love it. However, it hasn't been used and cleaned for years. The beer engines are pretty sticky and the hoses are a dark brown colour. I know absolutely nothing about this but I would like to clean it all up and get it working. My main questions are:
  1. Which parts can I easily replace? I'm assuming seals and hoses. Could...

Has anyone brewed with Kveik yeast? Its a Norwegian farmhouse strain that can tolerate temps up to a staggering 39c! I am using the Sigmund Giernes Voss yeasy which i believe has more than one strain in it. Can also be ready in a few weeks. I hope so. I will be using the following recipe;

3kg crisp organic pale malt
200g crisp organic crystal
300g flaked oats

Bittered to 20 IBU with Saaz and Tetnang.

The plan is to ferment 10l at 35c using temp controls on my boiler and putting the FV...

Rhubarb wine yeast recommendations?

Posted: 06 Apr 2021 01:30 PM PDT

I've been reading threads on this forum for years, but only just got round to registering, so hello and all that.

Planning on putting some rhubarb wine on in the next couple of days and wondering what yeasts people might recommend.

There's plenty of recipes around here and elsewhere, mostly recommending ec1118 or "champagne yeast", but I honestly can't stand the stuff, the fermentation just blows all the flavour out of whatever I've brewed with it.

Out of the yeasts I have laying around I...
