Build a Recirculating Draft Line Cleaning Pump

Posted: 24 Jul 2021 04:00 AM PDT

The directions on most line cleaners call for recirculating the cleaner for some period of time.  Most affordable cleaning setups that are out there include a hand pump.  Operating one of those for 15 to 30 minutes, for each faucet, doesn’t sound fun. To really clean your draft lines, you need to keep solution flowing […]

Complete "Turnkey" BIAB Setup - Enmore / Inner West Sydney

Posted: 24 Jul 2021 09:52 PM PDT

Location: Enmore in Sydney's Inner West
$1500 for the lot, but happy to take serious offers

We're planning to move into an apartment in the not-too-distant future and have started the process of downsizing.
Sadly, that spells the end to my homebrewing years, at least for now.

I've built up what I reckon is a pretty great little (or sadly not so little) setup for BIAB grain-to-keg-to-glass brewing. Rather than break the kit up and selling it off piecemeal, I would really love for it...

Bottling with Kveik yeast

Posted: 24 Jul 2021 04:16 AM PDT

Hello brewers,
I have searched the forums and the internet and found varying information.

my question is - does anyone bottle their beer when using kveik yeast as the primary fermentation yeast ? (common strains from Lallemand, or such, like Voss)

I see a lot of people using kveik, but in a keg situation - I'm simply not to be trusted around a keg at home; so I bottle.

the reports are varied, some say it is the same as other yeasts, some suggest adding more priming sugar, and yet...

OG too low - what's up?

Posted: 24 Jul 2021 03:53 PM PDT

Today I brewed a new to me recipe - Brewboard/WHC/TMM Colab – Majorvane – NEIPA

The grain bill is:

1710g Simpsons Finest Pale Ale Golden Promise
1040g Crisp CaraGold Malt
460g Crisp Dextrin Malt
750g Crisp Naked Oat Malt
760g Crisp Torrified Wheat

4720g total

The recipe says OG should be 1059 but I only got 1030! I'd appreciate some thoughts on what might have happened.

There is 500g of...

Hard Water V RO Water Lager

Has anybody brewed the same lager recipe but with one using hard water with acid addition and the other using RO water.
I wondered if there was much difference with the finished product?

I wonder if they have something going with Woodfordes now as in the beer aisle, they had bottled wherry, which I have never seen in a supermarket round my way before.

Rehydrating yeast

Posted: 24 Jul 2021 03:37 PM PDT

Blimey, this re-hydrating yeast business is more complicated than I thought. The Lallamand BRY-97 instructions say:

" Rehydration guidelines are quite simple and present a much lower risk of contamination than a starter, which is unnecessary when using the recommended pitch rate of dried active yeast.
Sprinkle the yeast on the surface of 10 times its weight in clean, sterilized water at 30-35°C (86-95F). Do not use wort, or distilled or...

Hello from Alderney

Posted: 24 Jul 2021 02:58 PM PDT

Hello everyone, from Alderney in the Channel Islands.
I'm about to start making wine, beers and cider after an absence from the hobby of well over thirty years.
Obviously, a few things have changed over that time, though the basics remain the same. From what I've read, the biggest changes have happened in the beer department and I'm beginning to get my head around a whole new vocabulary.
As my old gear was given away many years ago, I'm starting from scratch and have bought a basic starter...

Greg Hughes American Wheat

Posted: 24 Jul 2021 02:29 PM PDT

Following my slightly disappointing brew evening last week with an Apollo/Galaxy American IPA but missed OG by almost 10 points which is very unusual as I can't work out why I have decided to change my planned brews and slot a new one in. I was looking at the GH American Wheat which is like this:

boil 27l, batch 23l, IBU 25, OG 1.058, ABV 5.9%
----1 hr mash
Wheat 3kg
Lager malt 2.5kg
Carapils 300g
----1h10m boil
Citra 17g@70
Citra 26g @0
----
Wyeast 1010 American wheat

Fun Facts about Brewing and Beer

Posted: 24 Jul 2021 01:46 PM PDT

Does anyone know any fun or interesting facts, jokes or stories relating to brewing or beer that you would like to share?

I'll start with a few.

Did you know that.........the original definition of the inch, was the length of three barleycorns?

........that UK shoe sizes are also based on the length of a barleycorn, so a size 10 foot or shoe is one barleycorn longer than a size 9 and two barleycorn shorter than a size 12 etc. (Source QI)

........that the easiest way to kill the foam on...

Anna's Brewdays

Posted: 24 Jul 2021 01:39 PM PDT

So I guess I'm rather new here so I hope it's ok to start a thread here, I think it might be more useful than the written records I keep.

Today trying a stepped starter for the first time since the packs of Lallemand diamond yeast I have are not even remotely close to the pitch rate I'm looking for the two lagers I'm looking to do this weekend. I had thought of just doing one but if I'm going to tie up my fermenting fridge for weeks at a low temperature I thought I might as well make best...

Infections

Posted: 24 Jul 2021 01:34 PM PDT

Hey everyone,

I think this might be my first ever post, I've been lurking in the background for years :)

I have been homebrewing for almost 10 years and have made many very nice brews but in recent times, despite knowing how important sanitisation is, I am managing to get infections. It is blowing my mind and keeping me awake at night sometimes!

I want to run a few things by you guys, to get your thoughts. First I'll go through my process from the boiler.

1. Hot wort is gravity drained...

Hello from Alderney.

Posted: 24 Jul 2021 01:26 PM PDT

I've posted a bit on the forum already, but didn't notice this part!
I live on Alderney in the Channel Islands, a 3 and a half mile long rock just off the coast of France.
I got into brewing earlier this year and ruined the first few kits (well nearly, OK with a lemonade top) due to inexperience.
Now getting into my stride, I think, and brewing kit pimped Saisons and IPAs.
Really enjoying it as I love cooking and fiddling with recipes.
Other interests are Sea Angling and collecting and...

I use google DNS and had no issues.

Visitors attempting to reach some sites received DNS errors, meaning their requests could not reach the websites.
Affected services included Airbnb, UPS, HSBC bank, British Airways and the PlayStation network used for online games.
One popular DNS provider, Akamai, reported "an emerging issue" with its Edge DNS service.
It has now tweeted that the issue has been fixed and "the service is resuming normal operations".
