IBU and fermenting under pressure. Posted: 29 Apr 2021 06:06 PM PDT For those with experience here, can fermenting under pressure increase bitterness? Just tasted my first effort with this method and everything is really good except it's a very bitter finish compared to the numerous previous brews to this same recipe. Can Fermenting under pressure have this effect or has something else creeped in? |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 03:48 PM PDT Just a general comment but I've read lots of threads on brewing beer kits, I find it a bit like the Honda bike site I'm on too. Everyone one seems to know better that Honda or Muntons (here) that 'Dave' from Doncaster knows how to fuel a bike better than the multimillion company Honda after spending x amount of pounds on research for a world market. On here I find the same, I'm sure a bit of golden syrup may slightly change a brew but can i ask an honest question? Does it really make that... Tweaking Kits |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 03:47 PM PDT I've got my Sierra Nevada clone in my new fermzilla all rounder today. Long day. It doesn't fit in my beer fridge annoyingly so will ferment in my kitchen again. At the moment I have an airlock in. I do want to try fermenting under pressure. When should I switch out the airlock for the plastic pressure cap and spunging valve do you think? Immediately? After 48 hrs? Have read different things. |
Mangrove Jack Craft Series Pilsner Posted: 29 Apr 2021 03:09 PM PDT What a great kit!!! Started at 1044 and only 8 days later was at 1008, I'd dry hopped it on day 5. Its been in the bottle now for 3 weeks. I thought I would try one this evening to see how it was coming on fully expecting it to need a bit longer. I was very pleased to drink a crisp, clear and really nicely carbonated beer. Lovely Pilsner taste and smell. More than happy I've got another 42 bottles of this to go. The Craft Series kits really are the best I've used, I've had this one, the... Mangrove Jack Craft Series Pilsner |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 03:03 PM PDT I've previously only brewed extract kits - to great success with some of the Mangrove Jacks kits! I'd like to be able to personalise brews a little further without taking the plunge with any additional brewing kit for all grain. This may be a stupid question but could I boil spraymalt/flaked rice with a chosen blend of hops and stick it in the FV like I would an extract kit? Or is there more to it than this? Thanks, Alex |

Posted: 29 Apr 2021 02:30 PM PDT A joke to take the minds off the worriers and whittlers, who think we are all going to be wiped out with plagues pestilence and the off chance of a collision with a asteroid. In a small village in Russia the village milking cow dried up, the villagers were panicking wondering what to do. A village elder suggested they go and see the wise man of the woods, so they traipsed up to where the wise man of the woods lived. They explained the problem they had with the cow and he told them they... Joke of the day. |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 02:29 PM PDT I didn't get any takers when I posted this in the- What are you drinking thread, so will try here. I recently kegged a riwaka pale ale. Recipe is in my brewday thread. Think heavy hopped hazy pale. I am happy to bottle a few this week to send for a swap. Particularly looking for a Belgian pale, dunkelweizen or Baltic porter in return. Why those, well they are planned brews and I would like to try some before building a recipe. I am happy to send the beer first so the box can be returned... Bottle swap. |

I mixed up malt and yeast, is brew ruined? Posted: 29 Apr 2021 02:16 PM PDT I am doing my 2nd home brew and both times I used the same Tom Caxton Real Ale kit. After the success of my first brew I think I became over confident. This time I got the Malt and Yeast mixed up. I added and mixed in the yeast with the boiling water/wurt mixture then sprinkled the malt on top of the 40 pint mixture after I had added the cold water. So basically I got the malt and yeast the wrong way around. In my defence, Tom Caxton do not label the sachets. Nothing much has... I mixed up malt and yeast, is brew ruined? |
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 02:16 PM PDT Is there a kit which gives a beer under 3%? Or, if I brewed a kit with twice the water would I get twice as much beer at half the stated ABV? Or would the taste be weak as well? |
