Big Contract Producers Lean into Opportunity of Own Labels
The booming U.S. craft spirits category would not be what it is today without the help from third-party contract producers like MGP Ingredients and Green River Spirits Company. Both producers have long played a behind-the-scenes role, but have decided to try their hand with their own labels. While that could be concerning to the spirits companies that buy product from them, the contract producers argue it's not a threat to their partners. Rather it will help demonstrate everything they can do at the distillery.
“It’s a proof of concept, it’s proof that this is a great brand that has been revived, the liquid inside this bottle is second to none, and it’s a way of being able to celebrate the great history of the distillery, and the present quality of the liquid from Jacob Call [master distiller at Green River Spirits]," says Green River Spirits' CEO Simon Burch.
