What did you brew today?

Posted: 01 May 2021 08:02 PM PDT

Some people may not want to write out a full brewday report but just say what they brewed.

So what did you brew today?

I made a 'bit's and bobs stout' to use up the odds and ends of grain I had

Keezer insulation question

Posted: 01 May 2021 08:01 PM PDT

Hi all

I'm currently building a keezer so I can switch from bottling to kegging, and have got as far as building and attaching a collar.

I have a question; most of the time people seem to use a foil backed foam insulation board to insulate their collar, which seems like a good idea. When I was in b&q, I could only find super thick foil backed board or thin and cheap uncovered foam insulation board.

I bought the uncovered version, just wandering if anyone else has used this and if it's...

Hazelwood Brewday

Posted: 01 May 2021 04:10 PM PDT

I only joined the group a few days ago and today was my first brewday since joining so I thought I ought to give this a go - at least once.

Starting with the crime scene, I revamped our garden a couple of years ago. My wife wanted decking, a gazebo, and comfortable seating, I wanted a bar, win-win!

So this is where I also brew, at my bar, shown here in winter plumage (clear plastic PVC tarps fitted to two sides).

Who uses Star San

Posted: 01 May 2021 03:19 PM PDT

I have a couple of questions for people using Star San.

Until now I've been using VWP. I'm seeing a lot of videos of people using this Star SAN. Quite often as a made up spray.

It appears to be a lot more expensive, doout in terms of going further?

Can you really leave it on without rinsing and not effect the beer?

how long will it keep and stay effective in a made up spray bottle?

Thought I'd jump on the old bandwagon and make the move on from the "what did you brew today" thread. I suppose that even if no-one reads it I'll have a record for myself 😂 Oh well, here goes 😱

Busy day today. After setting out at kegging my Old Freckled Chicken and being faced with the prospect of having an empty FV I decided today would be my second consecutive brew day.

I'm now on a mission to use up existing hop supplies with a 25kg sack of clear choice pale malt but didn't have enough...

Wood fired steak

Posted: 01 May 2021 03:01 PM PDT

First Time cooking a Cote D'Boeuf on the wood fired oven. 90 minute sous vide at 55C then about 10 searing time on the grill. I've done this loads on the BBQ, but this was a completely different meal. The smoky charcoal flavours are gone, and the higher cooking temp delivered the most amazing depth of flavour to the steak. I could still taste it an hour after eating. Best bit was my 17yr old did most of the cooking, and he can't wait for the next one.

(For the food nerds, grill bars were at...

Which Vaccine? [poll]

Posted: 01 May 2021 02:53 PM PDT

I had the AstraZeneca jab over 24 hours ago and i haven't yet felt any side effects (fingers crossed i wont) ass some members have reported they have had mild and quite serious side effects i thought it worth finding out which vaccine you had and how bad the side effects were if you had any.
I have listed these as they seem to be the ones most of us have had.

BioNTech/Pfizer'

Errata: Greg Hughes, Home Brew Beer (2019 edition)

Posted: 01 May 2021 02:41 PM PDT

Following on from discussion in this thread (Greg Hughes recipes), I have created this new thread to collate errors in the recipes in the new 2019 edition of Greg Hughes' Home Brew Beer.

Feel free post to any errors you find that might lead to a recipe being brewed incorrectly and I will collate them into a Google doc (or similar) readable by all (which I'll post here at a later date). Please only post...

Hi all, look what I found at IKEA, was always hard to find a good place to put the bottles up side down, this might help, was just 3£.... Worth trying.

My Australian Monster

Posted: 01 May 2021 02:24 PM PDT

Like Doctor Frankenstein I am seeking to combine and reanimate the dead!

I've posted previously that I came into possession of an out of date Coopers Australian Lager kit and was pondering what to do with it. I found some information from someone who has tried brewing old kits and reported that they are still OK to use (in my case the can itself looked in good condition) but fermentation may take longer and have a higher finishing gravity. Using it to bulk up another...

Hopsteep Brewing

Time to join the crowd and start one of these brew day thread things :beer1:

This will be the first brew of 2020.

My parents are coming to stay with us at the end of February so I need to brew something that my dad will actually enjoy. He is a little bit stuck in his ways (it was only recently I converted him from Lager to drinking ales). That said, he has it in his head he doesn't like any grapefruit/citrus flavours in ales which pretty much restricts him to malty beers...
