Homebrew kit in a pressurised fermentor

Posted: 09 May 2021 07:41 PM PDT

I've been on a bucket brewing learning curve in parallel with a Pinter (small pressurised vessel) learning curve - next step is larger brews under pressure, for which I have a 35L Snub-nose fermentor, pressure kit and spunding valve ready to go. I'd like to start with straight forward Mangrove Jacks or Morgans Pilsner kit - any ideas on whether it's better to mix the malt extract and sugar in a bucket and pour into the snub-nose or can I stick my arm in and mix it in place?

Can I bottle from a pressure barrel?

I have about a third of a King keg full of beer. I have a brew coming out of the fv Thursday or Friday. I tested the other KK and found it will leak.

Can I bottle from the KK without is spoiling?

I haven't done bottling before, but I do have bottles.
And a crown capper.

Anybody making custom labels?

Anybody dabbled in label printers or applicators? If so I'm interested to know what you're using

Mangrove Jack Craft Series Helles

Posted: 09 May 2021 03:08 PM PDT

Another great MJ kit, started at 1044 and got down to 1010 so achieved the advertised 4.4%. Been in the bottle for about 4 weeks now and has cleared nicely and has a lovely flavour and good levels of carbonation. I'm working my way through the MJ craft series and they really are top kits and you get some lovely beer out of them. Got the Golden Ale conditioning currently and the single hop ipa brewing, very much looking forward to trying them both. Cheers 🍻

New members may not be aware that we have in the past had 4 runs of forum T-Shirts (two are pictured below) thanks to member Dan125, new forum sponsor Benfleet Brewery said he may be interested in making a run so if you would be interested please add your name to the thread.

Designs can be discussed but this predominantly to see if there is enough interest so no need to give sizes just say how many you would like if it goes ahead.

First Time Kveik - any tips?

Posted: 09 May 2021 02:26 PM PDT

As per title really. I'm having a go at Vienna Lager and intend to follow a Brewfather recipe by @David Heath, but I've never used Kveik before and need to know if there's any gotchas that are likely to trip me up. Should I make a starter (nutrients? pitch time?) or just rehydrate?

On a related note, I couldn't find the Norwegian Farmhouse Kveik by Sigmund Gjernes that's recommended in the...

Can fermentation be carried out too quickly?

Posted: 09 May 2021 02:16 PM PDT

Hi All

Kit brewer, use a 30L plastic FV and a basic setup.

I use a heat band and ferment at a constant 23 degrees, also started using Harris Pure brew in my last few kits.

Since using the heat band and pure brew I am seeing a rapid increase in the turn around of fermentation.

Prime example, doing Festival Razorback IPA brewing to instruction. OG 1.050, 30hrs later I am at 1.019 on Ispindle & Hydrometer. Airlock is bubbling rapidly.

Prior to using heat band and Pure Brew kits would...

Belgian Mild

Ever since @strange-steve posted this funny craft w***er video here: What are you drinking tonight 2020., I've been thinking about brewing a Belgian Mild, and now I've decided that on my next double brew day it'll be my small stove top brew.

After going back and forth with what a Belgian Mild should even be, I've come up with a recipe. I think it needs to...

What did you brew today?

Posted: 09 May 2021 02:09 PM PDT

Some people may not want to write out a full brewday report but just say what they brewed.

So what did you brew today?

I made a 'bit's and bobs stout' to use up the odds and ends of grain I had

Cestrian Brewday

Posted: 09 May 2021 02:00 PM PDT

I'm quite new to the forum, but I'm quickly approaching 200 AG brews. So I've been at this a while. You'd think I'd know what I'm doing by now, but that's one of the things I love about this hobby, there's always something new to learn or try, another yeast or hop combo. That's what I love. That and the beer!

Anyway thought I'd get a brewday log going to track my progress.

Cider problems

Posted: 09 May 2021 01:48 PM PDT

I am quite new to this home brewing, but am really enjoying it. I have brewed 2 beer kits very successfully, however I also tried a wilko dark fruits cider. Original fermentation took longer than expected. It should now be ready, however it doesn't taste as I was expecting. More like wine that cider, but not nice wine. Someone I know said it might be bacterial infection, but I have also read cider takes longer to get right anyway. Any one else had similar experiences and have any advice...
