Equipment questions please :)

Posted: 26 Jun 2021 07:43 PM PDT

Hey guys

We are looking at upgrading from BIAB this month coming, and I wondered if I could get some expert advice from some of you?

We have definitely decided on a Fermzilla for a starters. We wanted a Brewzilla too but can't afford both just yet. So my question is, if we get a digiboil, what will we have to do regarding sparging and cooling?

Is there a way to sparge without having to hold the bag aloft the whole time? Because that seems like a right royal pain in the a$$! Also would an...

Leeds or Norwich.

First up, I wish to apologize in advance if this post upsets members in the east.

Having postponed our hols to valkenswaard til September we are looking to take a UK break with a beer theme.

We have been double jabbed for 3 weeks and keep our contacts to a minimum. We plan to visit TUE/WED when its quieter as well.

The plan is to either go to leeds and visit northern monk & vocation tap room or go east to Norwich and visit the drunken monk with a stop in beers of europe on the way home...

E10 petrol.

When they release the list of cars that can run on it i hope mine isn't on it the fact it can harm the engine is a worry they cannot have tested it ion every engine so i guess this is basically guesswork.

If E10 fuel is put in an incompatible car, it will still run, according to the RAC,
But in the long run, it could cause damage to rubber seals, plastics and metals.

Every petrol vehicle built after 2011 should accept E10.

500mm depth Kegerator

So I finally took the plunge into kegging a month or so back by buying one of the kits from BKT.
Didn't take me long to realise that I now have no need to bottle and quickly decided to buy a 2nd corny.
I had a fridge that was just sat, unused in the garage for about 6 years and was totally gobsmacked that it still worked.
So I went about coving the rusty old fridge in a grey adhesive vinyl and tart it up a bit, added a tap on the door and was happy.
Then I thought " I wonder if I will fit 2...

Oatmeal stout with cascade hops?

Posted: 26 Jun 2021 03:09 PM PDT

Couldn't decide what I was going to brew when in the home brew shop and ended up with roasted barley, chocolate malt and fuggles hops. With other ingredients I already have I've decided to either make a bitter. Wanting to use the choc malt and barley I was looking at the GH oatmeal stout....but don't have Challenger hops. Would I be mad to substitute Cascade instead? I also have fuggles and Goldings hops. I have MO and crystal malt. Any ideas welcome. 🍻🍻

Not an important question, just more a "Is it just me?" question. I'm a new convert to hoppy IPA American style beers and have a question for those more experienced.

Was drinking very hop forward beer all day and then had a bottle of my favourite West Indies porter. It tastes totally different and the only way I think I can explain it with limited beer vocabulary is that I can taste malty flavour from the porter but nothing else. Do the American citrussy hops cancel out the hops used in...

Newbie possibly a silly question

Posted: 26 Jun 2021 01:05 PM PDT

Hi I had a cellar 7 kit (summer berries) and followed it to the letter and even left it to ferment a little longer as I wasn't convinced it had finished. I've put all the finings in and left it to clear for a good few weeks. I've then come to bottle it but when I've worked out the % it's only 1.010 🤔🤔 what have I done wrong and can I do anything to change it. I know it seems a silly question but I'm new to this home brew haha

Inkbird ITC100VH PID help please

Posted: 26 Jun 2021 12:38 PM PDT

Last week I made a post on my equipment upgrade build, it all went pretty much as planned, except I didn't have quite enough cable so couldn't connect my hlt.
I did my first brew the next day and I have a query over the behaviour of my Inkbird ITC100VH PID, with pt100 thermocouple, I did ask at the end of my last post but the post rambled on a bit, so boredom probably set in before anyone reached the end.
First of all the temperature jumps around a lot, as the temp is climbing it can rapidly...

Recomendation for Water Analysis

Can anyone recommend a UK lab for getting my water tested.

Covid the jab and the final stage.

Posted: 26 Jun 2021 11:01 AM PDT

SWMBO is a front line worker (carer) she has had the first jab and is now tested twice a week she also has the lateral flow test with the results showing 30 minutes after the test whenever she goes to work on the other days, there are no cases of Covid where she works and there hasn't been for quite a while.

I am hoping as a front line worker my turn will come soon my age will also help, its not often i am glad i am an old fart. :laugh8:
