Consumers Still Enjoy In-Store Shopping for Beverage Alcohol
Despite the pandemic driving a big increase in online sales and store pickups, almost 90% of all beer, wine and spirits purchases last year were made in-store, according to a survey from ChaseDesign. The survey also found that the share of shoppers making beverage alcohol purchases online has dropped to 35% from 40% during the pandemic.
Many respondents showed an overall appreciation for the brick-and-mortar experience, with 53% saying they enjoy browsing for beverages in person and 35% revealing that they miss being able to ask store associates about their choices when shopping online.
“The results of our shopper survey certainly support the need for both online and in-store as part of an overall solution in adult beverages. But overall omnichannel strategies should recognize shopper’s preference toward in-store, and be mindful of the trade-offs online purchases mean,” said Joe Lampertius, president of ChaseDesign.
