Greg Hughes Winter Warmer - Anyone done without the added the extras? Posted: 18 Aug 2021 02:41 PM PDT Hi, I am thinking of doing the Winter Warmer beer from Greg Hughes Home Brew book (v2). I don't fancy adding the cinnamon and ginger as I fancy a straight "Winter' type beer. As anyone brewed this and what are your thoughts? What would improve it and would you do it again? How would you describe the beer? Whats it commercial equivalent? Cheers |
Floating dip tube or standard? Posted: 18 Aug 2021 02:18 PM PDT Been pressure fermenting in corny with floating dip tube then closed transfer into purged keg. Is there much advantage in continuing to use floating dip over standard? Considering the beer has now been racked into a clean vessel surely you would only get a small amount of sediment in the full pull? Just wondering if there is any other great advantage to using floating dip in clean serving keg. Any disadvantages to pulling from the top when serving? |
Posted: 18 Aug 2021 01:54 PM PDT Did an experiment when priming my bottles a few weeks back and the sugar cubes were far better than carb drops and they're £1 for a 125 cubes |
CO2 purging barrels/cornys. How do you do it? Posted: 18 Aug 2021 01:49 PM PDT Looking at various threads there seems to be at least 4 methods. Method 1 Pressurise the container (barrel or corny) with CO2 from a regulated gas cylinder. Vent and repeat 3 or more times. Method 2 Fill the container with water and, after sealing it closed, displace the water with CO2 from a regulated gas cylinder until all the water is displaced leaving the container full of CO2. Method 3 Connect the fermenter to the container with a length of tubing so the gas produced during... CO2 purging barrels/cornys. How do you do it? |
Posted: 18 Aug 2021 01:28 PM PDT Not really a question this time, more of a comment. Brewing beer from kits mainly around 5% alc. and have to say the ones I have made have come out at 5% or even a bit higher, usually with 3.5 kg of extract and varying amounts of additional sugar. No problem so far! However, some kits state a finished beer of 4.5% but only come with 3kg of extract and no mention of additional sugars. You cannot make 40 pints of 4.5% beer with only 3kg of malt. It makes roughly 4% beer. Anybody else found... Beer Strength |
