Posted: 23 May 2021 04:30 PM PDT

Some people may not want to write out a full brewday report but just say what they brewed.

So what did you brew today?

I made a 'bit's and bobs stout' to use up the odds and ends of grain I had

Anna's Brewdays

Posted: 23 May 2021 03:56 PM PDT

So I guess I'm rather new here so I hope it's ok to start a thread here, I think it might be more useful than the written records I keep.

Today trying a stepped starter for the first time since the packs of Lallemand diamond yeast I have are not even remotely close to the pitch rate I'm looking for the two lagers I'm looking to do this weekend. I had thought of just doing one but if I'm going to tie up my fermenting fridge for weeks at a low temperature I thought I might as well make best...

Fiery Ginger Beer

Posted: 23 May 2021 03:27 PM PDT

I`ve been wanting to get some alcoholic ginger beer on for a while - so as i was at a loose end today i brewed this (recipe from a previous forum thread with a few tweaks  )

Fiery Ginger Beer 5 gallons

1kg Fresh grated ginger
5tsp Dried ground ginger
1tsp Cream of tartar
2 lemons
2 limes
2.5kg Sugar
2tsp Yeast nutrient
1 sachet champagne yeast

Really quick and easy (and cheap) to do - ginger was donated so very cheap

First i grated the...

Wineworks Wine kit is this normal.

Posted: 23 May 2021 03:12 PM PDT

I've just done my first wine kit, a wineworks red wine (rioja supposedly), made to 23l i got 28 bottles out of it, which came with the equipment kit, i bottled it 3 weeks ago after 2 weeks fermenting and around 10 days clearing and conditioning at 12°c. The kit had 5litres of juice and 500ml of concentrate as well as oak chips and the finings solution, I added all as instructions said and de gassed with a wand after I'd syphoned from fermenter to demijohn. I thought I'd try a bottle...

Last years record has been smashed was Covid part of the reason, did you make more in 2020 than you would have had covid not happened?

Hi folks, hope you're all well,

I'm a totally newbie to this home brew world and really fancy having a go, something relatively basic to start with though but more complicated than just the likenof the kits of brewdog you can get, so I was hoping you kind people could point me in the right direction, there seem to be loads of starter kits out there and I just want to make sure I get an ok one that does have everything I need (as I won't really know until I've got into the hobby), any...

Too busy to brew...

What can I say, just been too busy to brew lately...

Between local brats deciding that our living room window is good for target practice, leading to 4 days of constant call outs to the police, and our finally installing CCTV:-

Hiring a skip to do a MASSIVE spring clean of the house and garden, including getting rid of all of my old glass vivs and a 40 gall aquarium that have all been sat empty for years now:-

Leon103's brew days

Posted: 23 May 2021 02:37 PM PDT

I will jump on the band wagon and do one big thread for all my brews.

Today's brew was a bohemian Pilsner using the recipe from Greg Hughes' book page 94. I don't normally drink lagers but this will make a nice summer brew that I can pull out at bbq's. I decided to do have a brew (11.5l) and is my first go at a proper lager.

I won't post the recipe on here because it's in the book, I just handed everything but then decided to add an extra 500g of the malt because it was going spare...

Ferminator First Day Issues

Posted: 23 May 2021 02:16 PM PDT

Mad swings in temperature readings here, first time using this piece of kit.
So the probe is insulated fairly well with yoga mat material, touching the side away from the cooling unit.
I've seen anywhere between 18 and 26 degrees so I'm really confused as to what the thermometer is actually reading. It's been in for about 3 hours.
The fermenter is cold to touch, and the side thermometer is reading 18- is my guess as its so hard to see any colour on the strip.
Any ideas folks, is the beer too...

Coopers Hefe Lager review

Posted: 23 May 2021 12:58 PM PDT

Nov 2020. Standard kit using 1.2l of Mangrove Jack malt. Starting SG 1.041 which seemed a bit low. I boosted this with some honey solution to to 1.045 making 21 litres.
It pretty much stopped at 1.012 so I added 250g of brewing sugar and a few days later 20g of Mandarina hops.
Bottled 40 using 130g of priming sugar at SG of 1.009.
Notes suggest I did not use the kit yeast.
Enjoyable, drinkable - but prob would not redo. Standard Coopers Lager felt better

Recommend me a beer kit

Posted: 23 May 2021 12:48 PM PDT

Hi guys,

Going to place an order with brew2bottle, going for a Wherry and maybe 2 more for brewing over the summer.

I have got some Range Dark Berry Cider & just done Festival Belgium Dubbel.
Apart from those I have made the following;
Woodfordes Bure Gold & Wherry (twice)
Wilko Winter Ale, Cerveza, First Gold IPA (twice) Sweet Newkie Brown & Thirsty Red Devil.
Mangrove Jack's Craft Series - American IPA
Cooper's Lager

All where perfectly drinkable apart from Cooper's Lager & Wilko's...

Recommend me a beer kit 🍺

Ball lock disconnect o-rings

Posted: 23 May 2021 12:47 PM PDT

All the ball lock posts on my corny kegs have two red o rings on them, as per the piccy. Anyone know a good supplier of them in bulk? I've brought a corny keg rebuild kit, and they don't appear to come with it. A pack of 100 would be great.
