Gin Category Looks To Build on 2020 Growth
After a flat year in 2019, the gin category increased 1.4% to reach 9.99 million cases in 2020, according to Beverage Information Group. While gin cocktails are typically discovered on-premise, the category managed to grow despite pandemic closures, a sign that has some expecting a big year from gin. Cheers spoke to beverage professionals at Denver-based cocktail bar Forget Me Not and Orlando-based Sear + Sea Bar about the trends in gin cocktails, educating consumers on gin, and the stigma around the category.
"I think a lot of people are hesitant from bad experiences when asked if they would like a gin," said Sear + Sea Bar bartender Thomas Greene. "I’ve found that if you explain the nuances of the products and what botanicals are present, you can persuade them into trying it again."
