Greg hughes single hop pale ale

Posted: 15 Jun 2021 06:48 PM PDT

Hi, I did this last Friday, Amarillo single hop pale ale from Greg hughes.
4.7kg extra pale MO
235g cara malt
18 litres mash
14.5 sparge
Amarillo 8.9%
28g @ boil
15g @ 15 min +protofloc
15g @ 5 min
42g @ hopstand 80°c 20 mins
SafAle 04
OG 10.48
After 5 days it's at 1010 but its very bland and dry. I know it's early but does this seem OK to anyone. All my figures were very close and it worked out about 74% efficiency

How many of you have?

Posted: 15 Jun 2021 05:22 PM PDT

Given that alot of you here have mastered the dark arts of brewing your own beer - much to the chagrin of your local landlord and his less than full till. How many of you here have actually sacked the pub off and will never step foot in a pub again.

You hear so much about hospitality these days, ie can't get the staff etc. But all of them have inflated their prices rather excessively.

Having been to the pub on a few occasions to meet friends. I am seriously thinking ...f' that. I am...

New fermentation fridge ideas please

Posted: 15 Jun 2021 05:15 PM PDT

Just got this new fridge at the weekend. I want to turn it in to a fermentation chamber in my garage for 2 25ltr buckets. I was planning on using an stc-1000 to control the temp.

First question would a 1ft 40w tube heater be sufficient to keep the temperature up during the UK winter?

Any other tips or ideas are more than welcome

Thought I'd jump on the old bandwagon and make the move on from the "what did you brew today" thread. I suppose that even if no-one reads it I'll have a record for myself ๐Ÿ˜‚ Oh well, here goes ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Busy day today. After setting out at kegging my Old Freckled Chicken and being faced with the prospect of having an empty FV I decided today would be my second consecutive brew day.

I'm now on a mission to use up existing hop supplies with a 25kg sack of clear choice pale malt but didn't have enough...

What to brew

Posted: 15 Jun 2021 04:32 PM PDT

I have been going through my stocks, i have found 500g of vienna, 500g munich, 500g carapils, hops target, bramling x, ekg, challenger, northern brewer, cascade, citra, yeast beoirx2, cml no1x5, and notty all these need using base malts a lot of pilsner and larger malt so instead of buying more i am am going to get 2 more kegs and do a job on the fridge all ideas welcome acheers.

Double dry hop with a Corny

Posted: 15 Jun 2021 02:49 PM PDT

Good evening folks

So I've got an IPA on the go and I've got two batches of hops weighed out ready for dry hopping. Ideally I'd like to do this without any risk of oxidisation in my Corny. I'll be doing a pressurised transfer from my Chronical to the corny and was going to go with a bag under the lid of the corny with a magnet. However, I want to do a double dry hop, a few days apart. Any thoughts on the best way to achieve this?

My plan B is to just open the corny to put the hops in...

Using a mystery hop - and elderflower

Posted: 15 Jun 2021 02:46 PM PDT

Hello all. I've got a hop plant that is running rampant in the garden which should give me enough whole cones to attempt a green-hopped late summer ale. Unfortunately, I don't know if I've got a bittering or an aroma hop on my hands. Would it be best to pair it with an all-rounder to ensure it's not too tasteless with no aroma?

Also, there is a lot of elderflower about just now. Last year's attempts at an elderflower summer ale were disappointing. I dried a fairly large amount, maybe 30g of...

Polypin

Posted: 15 Jun 2021 02:36 PM PDT

Hi everyone,

A friend has, like many non brewing folk during lockdown, built a garden bar and has a handpump for use with commercial polypins etc.
He's invited us round in a few weeks and I thought I'd brew something to take round.

So my question-

What should I be looking for to fill with homebrew? Can you buy empty 10L polypin bags or similar that he can easily hook up?

I thought I might as well join the fun and post my own brewday log here in the forum. Today is an experimental bitter with the following recipe. I've never used Northdown before but Fullers use it and I very much enjoy a pint of Pride. I've also never added Chocolate malt to a bitter before but it's there in one of my favourite bitters of late: Darkstar Partridge so I'm putting the two together and doing this today:

85% Pale Malt
10% Munich Malt
3% Crystal 240 EBC
2% Low colour chocolate...

When even a blow off tube is not enough

Woke up to this mess with my witbier using the Lallemand Munich Classic Yeast. Do I need a bigger glass at the end of the tube?

What did you brew today?

Posted: 15 Jun 2021 01:24 PM PDT

Some people may not want to write out a full brewday report but just say what they brewed.

So what did you brew today?

I made a 'bit's and bobs stout' to use up the odds and ends of grain I had
