Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report Posted: 13 Aug 2021 06:47 PM PDT Hey there folks. I just started my first grow of the plants i purchased from essentially hops. At the start i have to mention that i am really pleased with the grow. The plants arrived wrapped in separate packages surrounded by moss for keeping them moist. The plants were labeled and had a instructions included clearly saying what soil to use and etc. The rhizomes were planted on the day they arrived... Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report |
Fruit wine - timing for Campden tablet and pectolase? Posted: 13 Aug 2021 05:55 PM PDT I'm going to make another fruit based wine (using strawberries and some other berries all currently frozen) and just wanted to check forum member's experience of the initial process please as there seems to be conflicting information out there. 1) Last time I made a fruit wine I defrosted and mashed the fruit, added a Campden tablet and left it for a day to kill off any wild yeast. However, there are claims that adding boiling water to the frozen berries renders this step unnecessary as it... Fruit wine - timing for Campden tablet and pectolase? |
Posted: 13 Aug 2021 04:08 PM PDT My wife and I are going round and round circles....we need your help! Our current car, a VW Touran, needs a fair amount of money spending on it so we are looking to replace it. We've been happy with it, in particular the size, versatility and solid build. We've got 3 kids between 6 and 14, want petrol because we don't do huge numbers of miles and want 3 proper seats in the back. Could be labelled SUV, MPV or estate but we want plenty of boot space. Got up to £15k to spend. What do you... Family car recommendations? |

Ban on new petrol and diesel cars in UK from 2030 under PM's green plan Posted: 13 Aug 2021 03:53 PM PDT Ban on new petrol and diesel cars in UK from 2030 under PM's green planThe PM confirms he is bringing the ban forward as he sets out his "green industrial revolution". www.bbc.co.uk So, how is this going to work then? I suppose they will have to put a 50% fuel duty on electricity instead in order to recoup the loss in this revenue! |
Posted: 13 Aug 2021 03:45 PM PDT Kit made to 22 litres at starting SG of 1040 - and incudes 25g of hops; no idea what type or mix. Yeast labelled '69' Started well - slow finish to fermentation. Hops added towards end of fermentation . Bottled with 140g of priming at SG 1018 - maybe too early Results - well, anyone reading my posts knows I am no gourmet - this was a bit frothy so I think bottled too early - however it's very tasty and friends have knocked it back very happily. I have since ordered the 3 Rabbits... Hamstead 2 Rabbits IPA |
Posted: 13 Aug 2021 03:06 PM PDT Hi. I'm thinking about moving on from beer kits to partial/grain. Budget is tight and I was wondering if anyone has used the Digiboil successfully. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
Posted: 13 Aug 2021 02:28 PM PDT If i were to buy the same fridge, would it fit a corny keg, possibly two so I can convert to a Kegerator? |
Posted: 13 Aug 2021 02:27 PM PDT Hi All Before going on holiday a week or so again, I kegged a couple of batches I'd had fermenting. My usual setup is ferment for 12 days after brew day, into a corny, put under pressure and cold conditioned in a fridge for 2-3 weeks. I've just got home and realised one of the fridges hadn't been switched on. The keg has been kept under pressure as normal but with no temperature control at all. Will this have caused harm to the beer or if I switch fridge on now and give it some time to... Cold conditioning blunder!! |

Posted: 13 Aug 2021 02:00 PM PDT Hi there, I'm still very much treading the thin line of all grain brewing, and this will be my 3rd attempt. I'm having trouble sourcing some of the grains used in some of the IPA recipes I'm finding. Most of them are American, and some of the grain types don't seem to be available here in the UK I was wondering if anyone has found a UK source for the following, or could suggest a suitable alternative malt: Honey White wheat Crystal malt 60L (presume any old medium crystal will do for... Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1) Posted: 13 Aug 2021 01:23 PM PDT Since it's a topic that comes up quite a lot on the forum I thought I'd post a beginners guide to simple water treatment. Rather than delving into the complex chemistry, this is designed to give the basic information to get you started. There is lots of much more in-depth information available online if you'd like some further reading. More advanced treatment here - More Advanced Water TreatmentI just thought I'd add an accompaniment to the beginners water treatment post (here) for anyone who fancies a little more fine tuning. This step isn't necessary but once you have a grasp on the basics of water treatment, you may want to advance to this step for a little more control over your... www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk [URL...
