Posted: 06 May 2021 07:51 PM PDT Good morning all, Is there anyone here who has made Elderberry wine either from a kit or 'natural'. If so could you please let me know the process as ive only ever made the supermarket turbo wine and wine from wine kits. Tried taking a look online but i can only find Elderflower which ive been told isnt the same thing. Any help would be appreicated. Thanks Craig |
Posted: 06 May 2021 05:00 PM PDT Hi all I am thinking to buy some green apples and at the boiling phase add its juice, how much juice should I add. The idea is just to give an interesting apple flavour. Prost |
Hand Pull Angram Beer Pump and connecting it to kegs Posted: 06 May 2021 04:38 PM PDT Afternoon, Sorry if this has been asked a lot but I have just been given an angram Hand pull Beer pump that has been removed from a bar, As far as I can tell it doesn't need co2 to pull the beer (I can put the white part of the pump in a jug of water and can pull this through) Is it just a case of getting a hose (3/8 I think to replace the missing one in the white part and then feeding this into a mini Keg sorry for the unclear details will try and add some photos |
Can I bottle from a pressure barrel? Posted: 06 May 2021 04:35 PM PDT I have about a third of a King keg full of beer. I have a brew coming out of the fv Thursday or Friday. I tested the other KK and found it will leak. Can I bottle from the KK without is spoiling? I haven't done bottling before, but I do have bottles. And a crown capper. |
Pros & cons between 30 & 50l allinone? Posted: 06 May 2021 04:30 PM PDT Hi everyone, like the title says what's the pros and cons of 30 or 50l all in one? The obvious thing is the 30l is 150 euro cheaper and that's the one I think I'm leaning to.But then I think it's not much more for the bigger one and will I regret not getting the 50l in a few years time? Then I think am I really gonna brew that much at a time and could the extra money be used towards something else like kegs maybe.? Whats the average batch people brew do many people brew that much at a time... Pros & cons between 30 & 50l allinone? |
Spent grain, compost bin and mice Posted: 06 May 2021 04:10 PM PDT I've always put my spent grain in the compost bin. This was fine at my old house - the bin was at the bottom of the garden, 50 yards from the house. I've now moved and got one of those round, plastic bins which is quite close to the house - and I've got mice activity around it. They might even be nesting in it, for all I know. I assume that the mice are going for the grain, but what do I do? We get a weekly food bin collection but I can't really put 5kg or so of wet grain in it, can I? Any... Posted: 06 May 2021 03:17 PM PDT Hi all, I've brewed an 11.6% quad with 1214 and it's been in the bottle for about 2 weeks now. Out of curiosity I've popped one open and it's not carbed at all, very minor hiss the bottle opened. What's anyone's thoughts on carefully opening each bottle and adding a tiny pinch of champagne yeast (then recapping) to try and get them fizzy? |
Posted: 06 May 2021 02:47 PM PDT As an offshoot from the other thread, I would be curious to hear people's thoughts on England seeking independence from The UK. It's something that rarely gets spoken about, but given how unhappy and disenfranchised large swathes of society feel, I'm surprised an independent England with federal regions hasn't been put forward. I suppose a case could be made that there would be little appetite from Westminster as it would mean that power was taken from them and decentralised. I would... English Independence |
Dry hopping for the first time Posted: 06 May 2021 02:46 PM PDT I am currently fermenting an American Pale Ale and will be dry hopping with hop pellets in teabags. The recipe says to wait until it gets below 1.020 and then to dry hop for 3 days. I have no special equipment for this, so I am going to have to lift the lid to drop the hops in, and I realise this increases the risk of oxidisation. Is the idea of waiting until around 1.020 that, because it is still actively fermenting, the CO2 generated will push the O2 out through the the blow off tube... Dry hopping for the first time |
Posted: 06 May 2021 02:37 PM PDT There seems to a few of us making mixed fermentation beers and even more interested in starting out. So I thought a general thread on the subject may work?? Would be great to hear what people are up to. Pass advice and encouragement on to each other. Photos I love photos especially of pallicles.. Maybe some bottle swaps? I've only had commercial sour beers other than my own homebrewed and would love to try other home brewed examples |
Posted: 06 May 2021 02:25 PM PDT Hello from the very sunny south coast, Absolute newbie advice (not even got the kit yet but the shopping list is growing), higher authority has said I can brew my own beer (only if I make her some wine...seems fair), however I can only do it in the bat cave (aka the garage). Even on the south coast the bat cave will have large fluctuations in temps during the day. I have spent sometime reading the forum posts, but would like some advice on keeping the temp with the fv... Posted: 06 May 2021 02:04 PM PDT I am trying to replicate a desert in a beer and thought it would be cool to add the biscuits from the desert into the mash as well. I have added bread to the mash before with no issues but I'm wondering if anything could go wrong with adding biscuits, maybe because if the fat in the biscuits? anyone used biscuits in the mash before? |
April Competition - Lagers/Pseudo Lagers/Kolsches etc Posted: 06 May 2021 01:49 PM PDT Hi everyone, If you'd like to take part in April's competition it's lagers and lager style beers. Judging will probably take place first weekend of May so plenty of time to get your entrees in. Send a PM if you'd like to enter or ask any questions here. Thanks! EDIT: the full list of styles is lager/kolsch/pseudo lager to include European and American styles |
Posted: 06 May 2021 01:37 PM PDT Well a week ago today I christened my Robobrew. Greg Hughes American IPA. My other choice was his London Bitter. That may have been the better choice as the IPA had a lot of grain for a first brew but it went ok ish and the mash went ok with good wort circulation but feel a recipe with a smaller amount of grain would have been easier. But now been fermenting just over a week and looking and smelling good. Managed to take a few photo's in amongst the sometimes tense... venkman100's Brewdays |
Posted: 06 May 2021 01:37 PM PDT A joke to take the minds off the worriers and whittlers, who think we are all going to be wiped out with plagues pestilence and the off chance of a collision with a asteroid. In a small village in Russia the village milking cow dried up, the villagers were panicking wondering what to do. A village elder suggested they go and see the wise man of the woods, so they traipsed up to where the wise man of the woods lived. They explained the problem they had with the cow and he told them they... Joke of the day. |
