Volume 362 | August 10, 2021 Diageo Acquires Mezcal Unión Diageo has announced the expansion of its agave spirits portfolio with the acquisition of Casa UM, owner of Mezcal Unión. Mezcal Unión was founded in 2011 and initially established a distribution partnership with Diageo in 2016. The agreement will allow the founders to continue their involvement and support future growth. The deal, which is subject to regulatory clearances, will allow Diageo to expand its footprint in the fast-growing Mezcal category. Under the partnership, Boston Beer will produce the beverage, while Pepsi will set up a new entity to sell, deliver and merchandise the product, which is expected to hit shelves in early 2022. Pepsi has been considering a move into the beverage alcohol space for months and filed a trademark application this past June to sell Rockstar-branded alcoholic beverages.
