Grumble, Grump, Gripe. General Moaning Thread.

Having allowed the children to go hungry and unshod and the wife having to wear last year's fashions so that I could buy a couple of Inkbird Temperature Controllers, here we are on the 17th of August and the temperature won't even allow the fridges to cut in!!!! I've set my two fridges to ferment ordinary English ales at 19C, the last couple of days I've woken up to 13 and 14C respectively and a maximum today of 18. What's all this global warming nonsense? More like a new ice-age, I reckon...

Hello all brewers!

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 04:24 PM PDT

From south Birmingham brewed kits in a bucket many years back and now fancy another go but hopefully at the next level! Already spent a fortune on equipment and carrying x4 9.5L Corny's in which I have started pressure fermenting from grain, first stout being tapped this weekend hopefully! Much enjoying the content on this forum and look forward to contributing. Cheers!

Best opening song lyrics.

What do you think is the best opening song lyric?

Perhaps if you post the song/artist and let us find out the first line ourselves?

I present - Kraftwerk - Showroom Dummies. (I would hasten to add counting in the start of a song doesn't qualify. ;-) )

Power Controller for excessive liquid loss in Peco boil.

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 02:49 PM PDT

I use a Peco boiler for an 11.5L BIAB and lose about 3.5 litres in a 1 hour boil. This is because the boil is very vigorous in the Peco. I've been advised to get a power controller to cut the power and so reduce the vigour of the boil. Can anyone recommend a specific power controller that would be suitable for the Peco (240v and 2.4kw)?

Common word pairs.

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 02:38 PM PDT

I have seen this on another forum and its popular so will give it a go here.

It doesn't need to be beer related anything goes, it also doesn't need to match any of the words in the previous post.

I will start it with -

Gas or electric efficiency

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 02:17 PM PDT

Hi all, been a while since I was on the forum. I have an interesting question, half to do with brewing equipment but I suppose the other half is physics/thermodynamics!
I'm planning on scaling up the brewery just now however I am limited to the amount of current I can draw so the maximum electric power I use in the brewery is 3.5kw.
I've been looking at options of scaling up to between 120 - 150 litres however the heating at that volume becomes an issue so leaves me with a couple of choices...

King Keg Float Tube/Line

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 01:44 PM PDT

Hope this is the right place for this ask? Can anyone direct me to where I can get some replacement line/tubing for the KKTT. I have just acquired one and the line needs replacing. It looks to be really flexible/bendy and my local brew shop only has the hard stuff used for siphoning. I think it's 3/8 OD? Thanks in advance for your replies. Steve

So who's growing chillies 2021?

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 01:40 PM PDT

I am! But then I do every year 🙂.

It's always tough to select what to grow but I've got Dorset Naga, Michael's Magic, Turtle Claw, Jamaican Jerk (all capsicum chinense), Tropical Orange (capsicum pubescens), and Madre Vieja (capsicum baccatum) in the propagator with reasonable germination so far.

I'll get my capsicum annuum sown at the start of March (they don't need so long a growing season) but haven't quite decided what I'll grow yet.

What are you growing / will you grow this year?

Cold crash?

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 01:36 PM PDT

Hi guys. I recently checked the gravity of my beer that's been sat in a temperature controlled fermenting vessel for 7 days. It seems to have finished fermentation but there is still what I believe to be yeast on the surface? I've never cold crashed but have the ability to now. Will this help clear the top quicker? If so how low do I go? It's a british ale that I am brewing . Thanks

Is anyone selling the petlings to fit the Cherry Philips 4.0 board?

I'm struggling to find them in the UK, and don't want to order from Lithuania without a guarantee its the right size!

Does anyone have one of these and did you get a faulty one? Ours will not turn on but we get a flashing error message. We have changed the batteries, made sure they're in the right way, and watched a YouTube video tutorial but still no luck. Looks like I'll have to return. So annoyed. That's ruined our brew day 😞
