Increasing efficiency in Brewmonk Posted: 02 Aug 2021 04:12 PM PDT Hi all, I am new to this forum and am looking for some advice. I have recently switched from BIAB to a Brewmonk all in one system. I have been having issues lately and can't seem to get to the bottom of it. Since switching to this systemmy efficiency seem to have lowered to around 68-70%, which I know isn't terrible but it's a little annoying that I'm not hitting my targets like I used to. I used to generally get about 75-80% when doing BIAB depending on the grain bill, however I am... Increasing efficiency in Brewmonk |
How long to leave in primary fermentation? Posted: 02 Aug 2021 03:25 PM PDT Hi all, My first brew (Muntons West Coast IPA) is in its primary fermentation stage. Thanks to my lack of planning (!) I have a few trips coming up around the 14 day mark (when the kit instructions says to move to secondary fermentation). I've outlined a timeline below: 21/07 - Started brewing 31/07 - Will add hops (as per kit instructions) 03/08 - 7/08 - Trip away. During this trip is 4/08 = 14 days fermented 07/08 - 09/08... Brew day #2 . Dupont Saison Clone - Grainfather G30 Posted: 02 Aug 2021 02:57 PM PDT What a day! This whole beer thing is a lot harder than it looks… Clean everything, all good. Mash liquor up to temp and start the mash.. all appears good. Add top plate, Grainfather filter, overflow thingy on the top of the pipe and start the 60 min mash. About 15 mins in the top plate drops down taking the overflow thingy and filter all below the liquid line.. not sure what happened, I assume the malt compacts, but to have everything drop like that was strange.. any one else experienced... Posted: 02 Aug 2021 01:36 PM PDT Some people may not want to write out a full brewday report but just say what they brewed. So what did you brew today? I made a 'bit's and bobs stout' to use up the odds and ends of grain I had |
Posted: 02 Aug 2021 01:33 PM PDT I have seen this on another forum and its popular so will give it a go here. It doesn't need to be beer related anything goes, it also doesn't need to match any of the words in the previous post. I will start it with - Kings Head (pub) |
Posted: 02 Aug 2021 01:26 PM PDT Jodie Whittaker is standing down as the Doctor and to be honest when i heard i said who? as Its been years since i regularly watched it, 5 live had a bit of fun with the news asking listeners to ring in with their nominations for the next and they also asked who was listeners favourites from the past so lets have your views. Two votes as like me you may have a favourite old doctor from the early years and recent one. My vote for the next would be Eddie Izzard. |
Posted: 02 Aug 2021 11:52 AM PDT I have been given a specific water profile to use for a recipe, and as I use RO water as my source water, I thought it would be easy to build the exact profile. Here is the profile: Ca 100, Mg 7, Na 100, Cl 150, SO4 60 The closest my brewing software will get me with the salt additions I have in stock is: Ca 61, Mg 6, Na 63, Cl 149, SO4 60 So, pretty close, but I can't seem to raise the calcium and sodium without throwing something else out. I guess it's a bit of a balancing act but just... Matching a water profile |

Covid the jab and the final stage. Posted: 02 Aug 2021 10:58 AM PDT SWMBO is a front line worker (carer) she has had the first jab and is now tested twice a week she also has the lateral flow test with the results showing 30 minutes after the test whenever she goes to work on the other days, there are no cases of Covid where she works and there hasn't been for quite a while. I am hoping as a front line worker my turn will come soon my age will also help, its not often i am glad i am an old fart. |
Posted: 02 Aug 2021 10:42 AM PDT I moved from bottles to corny kegs a few months ago, and I've noticed the beer clarity is worse in kegs than it was in bottles. So I wondered what routine my fellow all-grain brewers use to arrive at clear beer? All I do at present is throw in a Protofloc tablet 15 minutes before the end of the boil. I don't rack the beer into a second FV, but transfer direct into the keg from the original. Also, I don't currently use any finings. So what's the easiest method to get my beer clear? Rack... Posted: 02 Aug 2021 10:16 AM PDT Thought i'd bring all my brewdays together in one thread. Had a day off today and because Foxbats Mainline beer seems to have been the most popular amongst my friends, alongside GH's Paterbeir I thought I would brew it again. Looking for somewhere between 17-20l for the FV and am still finding my way around my cygnet water boiler so using fag packet maths I used 300og Maris Otter 120g Caramalt 40g Chocolate Wheat 100g Crystal that I found at the bottom of the box and decided to get... Ruining my beer - plaster taste Posted: 02 Aug 2021 09:57 AM PDT Good day to you. can i have some forum help please. I keep killing my beer . I seem to be getting a Plaster ( that you stick on a cut) medicinal smell and taste. ive manage to ruin a dark brown ale. Kolsch ( this one alot more than the rest) and a creamsoda ale experiment. its really beginning to drive me insane. ive literally had to ditch 100s of liters ( yes hundreds!) of beer because it has taken on this medicinal taste. Even my brother , who would drink the spirit out of a spirit... Ruining my beer - plaster taste |
