Posted: 18 May 2021 04:17 PM PDT Hi all. I'm new to this Brave New World of fermentation. Enjoyed making kimchi and sauerkraut and now moving on to the pinnacle of fermentation ... grain. One disastrous brew in ( in a cloudy burnt toffee ale with hints soil and sweat), I'm keen to learn more and brew more. Sean |
Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report Posted: 18 May 2021 03:53 PM PDT Hey there folks. I just started my first grow of the plants i purchased from essentially hops. At the start i have to mention that i am really pleased with the grow. The plants arrived wrapped in separate packages surrounded by moss for keeping them moist. The plants were labeled and had a instructions included clearly saying what soil to use and etc. The rhizomes were planted on the day they arrived... Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report |
Juicy Session IPA - Mangrove Jack's review Posted: 18 May 2021 03:51 PM PDT Thanks to Give away from Brew 2 Bottle I have this kit - thank you again guys. As promised bellow is a review from brewing day. Tasting in six weeks. This is a pilot kit according to writing on the package, comes with additional hops for dry hopping and M44 US west coast yeast. Bew2Bottle threw in Malt Extract 1.2kg, sanitiser and carbonating drops. First started with heating the kit pouch (after removing hops and yeast) and malt extract in warm water to make it easier to remove it from... Juicy Session IPA - Mangrove Jack's review |
Posted: 18 May 2021 03:47 PM PDT I don't believe a review has been done yet on this Kit. I enjoy a Blonde Ale and decided to give the James Blonde Ale from The Homebrew Company a try. It is a two can kit, 3.0 kg of premium liquid malt extract with Mangrove Jacks US West Coast M44 Yeast, and I believe a mixture of Nugget, Summit and Sorachi Ace hop pellets for dry hopping. This was my 6th brew and I started it on the 06/03/21. OG =1.040 and yeast was pitched at around 23 degrees C. I was worried that fermentation had stalled... Bruphoria James Blonde Ale |
Posted: 18 May 2021 03:28 PM PDT I thought this was quite interesting and worth sharing: Map of UK Breweries Not sure how up-to-date it is but Google usually does a good job. So what's close to you then? |
Posted: 18 May 2021 03:23 PM PDT I've bought a 500g block of US05 but only need 250g. Happy to sell 250g at cost for £28 posted. Would prefer to sell in one go but could do smaller amounts if need be. Will be vacuum packed and 500g pack not opened till sale. |
Posted: 18 May 2021 03:15 PM PDT By far one of my fav kits, I brew using 1kg of med or dark spraymalt, has a vigorous fermentation that climbs out of the fermenter. Usually ready in a week to drink it is a fast session stout in my opinion, the flavours have a slight coffee taste to them but its somewhat of an easy drinker. Would be interesting to try served by Nitrogen this is something I am hoping to mess around with. Mark |

Posted: 18 May 2021 03:00 PM PDT Hi, i`ve just started brewing again and need a little help with fittings for a mini regulator. I`m looking for a barbed fitting for this regulator but, don`t know the type of thread needed and where to get it, the disconnects fit it directly but i want to put a 3/8 pipe on it. Does anyone know where i can get a barbed fitting please. TIA. |
Dissolved C02 in Primary an its affects Posted: 18 May 2021 02:54 PM PDT Hi all, It seems recently that my brews have had a ton of dissolved C02 in them, even after sitting for 3 weeks in primary. I have just put dry hops in my current 3 week old batch and the airlock has picked up to bubbling every 2 seconds. I noticed a lot of bubbles coming off as well when I stuck the hydrometer in there. Presumably the nucleation point on those solids causes the release of the dissolved gas. My main questions are these; 1. Is all this dissolved gas affecting my hydrometer... Posted: 18 May 2021 02:31 PM PDT Some people may not want to write out a full brewday report but just say what they brewed. So what did you brew today? I made a 'bit's and bobs stout' to use up the odds and ends of grain I had |
Ispindel readings going the wrong way... Posted: 18 May 2021 02:29 PM PDT Hi Made a batch of Youngs IPA on Sunday, brewed short to 20L. Checking the Ispindel info the readings are going the wrong way, increasing not going down - see attached graph. I've brewed a few kits in the last year and I've noticed its not unusual for the graph to peak maybe 12hrs after pitching the yeast but this was made two days ago now. Cracking the top of the FV open and it looks / smells OK but wondering if I'm missing something? Any ideas welcome! |
Posted: 18 May 2021 02:04 PM PDT Apologies as a newbie this may appear to be a daft question I am looking to use kits to brew 12 bottles. If I use 2 x 6 bottle kits do I need to modify any of the ingredients or use both in one fermenting vessel all to make one brew |
First time building a starter - does this look OK ? Posted: 18 May 2021 01:52 PM PDT Morning all - I pitched this yesterday evening with fresh WLP800, so it's now had 16 hours on the stirplate at room temp with air bubbled into it. Does it look OK and is it ready for me to add fresh wort (to take it from 1 to 3L) ? Its appearance has changed and it smells nice and yeasty - but according to the refractometer the SG is the same and I was expecting to see a bit more of a head on it... (L: freshly pitched; R: +16 hrs) First time building a starter - does this look OK ? |
