Allagash White has all the traits and follows the style guidelines of Belgian Wit, a wheat beer, cloudy in appearance and spiced to create a refreshing and crisp beer. Allagash brewery clearly follows a Belgian philosophy to brewing with a coolship and oak barrel ageing of many of their beers is more akin to traditional Belgian brewers than Portland, Maine. Allagash White is spiced with coriander seed and curacao orange peel very much the same as Hoegaarden. Recipe Details

Allagash – A Belgian Inspired Brewery In Portland, MaineAllagash was founded in 1995 and from the start, set out to brew Belgian style beers. Cloudy, spiced beers at the time were a completely different proposition to macro brewed lager. Fortunately, the popularity of Belgian Wit style beers which have been ever-growing in popularity after almost ceasing to exist in the 1950s saw Allagash White, the breweries flagship beer become a complete success. Alongside Allagash White, there are now a whole host of Belgian inspired beers produced at Allagash. Brewing with wheat can be a little different to barley. A fantastic read all about wheat beer is “Brewing with Wheat” by Stan Hieronymous. I thoroughly recommend it for not only learning all about Belgian Wit but also all the other types of beer using wheat. Recipe Notes
