Retailers Sound Off on Cost, Benefits of Delivery Apps Post-Pandemic
The e-commerce and on-demand delivery channel for the beverage alcohol category has certainly taken off since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but what will the channel look like post-pandemic? Market Watch spoke to retailers around the country to gauge if they're planning to participate in the segment going forward.
While some retailers see third-party delivery apps as a way to increase incremental income, others would prefer to avoid the fees and labor costs and would rather focus on their own delivery programs. But most agree the channel will continue to grow in the long run.
“The future will look very different,” says Prav Saraff, the director of operations at 1 West Dupont Circle Wines and Liquors. “Retailers must either be thinking of or preparing for tomorrow or they’ll get left in the dust.”
